Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I can't do any tests with speedtest.net

It hangs when selecting the best server based on ping.

But I don't have any speed issues - downloaded 26Gb's already

It is very frustrating yes, but what can we do??

We will just have to sit and wait and hope that Telkom and Afrihost can get this problem sorted.

No wonder they had an 80% off "special". They knew speeds will be crappy and that we won't be using normal volumes.

Someone has to be... Kapitan Obvious:

( answer by adding  to correct place )

1)
[] There was not enough bandwidth
[] There was enough bandwidth

2)
[] Actual changes
[] Spinning changes

It's not a question of bandwidth provisioning as it is of contention for priority, due to congestion at IPC level. So there was not an active throttle saying "too much is being drawn so give everyone less".

We are assured by IS that the issue will be fixed very soon, and we will continue to test for any other anomalies that might be contributing to the issue.

0 / 100 as nothing was ticked

Thanks for the update :)

clock is ticking Afriman :D

Afriman how long is it going to take to complete the IPC upgrade? You mentioned "soon" but is soon 1 day or 6 days?

As I said, we are waiting on Telkom now, and unfortunately there's no indication from them when they will attend to this. We are dealing with this at the highest level (our company directors are involved) and we are making every effort to get it sorted out.

Hardly the case with me at all. I'm on 10mb and my speeds have been at 100% since day 1 (unless I hit the throttling limit). My only issue now is latency.

Well your ping looks nice - if that's any comfort :)

LOL we have opposite scenario's, you have awesome ping but terrible bandwidth, I have awesome bandwidth but terrible latency.

Sigh. We are on 4mb capped.

Download Speed: 2189 kbps (273.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 363 kbps (45.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 345 ms

the service is great and all, but the performance is plain terrible. Getting harder and harder to defend why we are using them. Really hope they have some kind of compensation plan since we are talking of cancelling as "soon" can be anything from a day to a month :C

Last Result:
Download Speed: 491 kbps (61.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 514 kbps (64.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 70 ms

CPT, 4MB Uncapped, SAIX Speedtest to CPT server..

Afriman appreciate your feedback but starting to get the sense that by Friday I am still going to be asking the same question.I suppose I will at least be justified in invoking your "60 day no questions asked" refund.

Edit - I see it's actually double your money back :)

I assume IS is waiting on Telkom to increase their IPC at the moment , hence the impact on AH ? Was this part of the original bandwidth requirement planning for Uncapped ? Or does this mean we ( AH Uncapped users ) are using more than what AH originally planned for ?

If I read all this correctly the problem seems to be in CPT only. Why am I having a problem here in Natal then?(Capped and uncapped accounts)
When I was still with OW, last week, it was fine. Even my FNBConnect account is fine.

I will run some tests again tonight.

Sigh

:erm: Not good at all. We have to be patient. I just hope they are keeping Telkom running around to fix this because if we have to wait for Telkom to fix this we will probably sit with this problem until the end of next month.

What makes you think it`s a Telkom problem ?
