Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I don't know the full implementation details, but I know we will only be moving users across is small controlled groups. This way we can monitor performance and fine tune the network as we go along. Our primary concern is stability and quality, so we will be operating on both MTN and IS until we are confident.

We will continue to partner with IS, so we will have fallback plans if necessary. But we truly believe that this will be a positive move and Afrihost clients are going to be in "the pound seats"

:)

Sounds good :) I will stick around to see how it performs. Any chance you could move my account over in one of the controlled groups? I would really like to test it.

My only issue - Why not provision your own bandwidth? Afrihost must have enough clients to warrant that? Then you can manage the throttling/shaping at your own discretion.

But hey, if this is what will work for you, then so be it :)

since everyone just moans :P i would like to say thanks to afrihost. Its been a very enjoyable experience so far. Never getting less than 5mb on my 4meg account :) better than my mweb ever was, even ahead of my openweb gold, and since this month was R80 it was an insane deal :)

Is this on a uncapped account?

That's the idea, by moving to a larger network, we will have direct control over bandwdith and provisioning. Better support, and better service.

How are you getting 5Mbps on a 4Mbps account?

So I take it the CT IPC issue is sorted? Does this mean it's safe for me to venture back to Afrihost?

Regarding the move to MTN: Will we still have access to the IS news server or will Afrihost launch its own news server (I am using Astraweb but it would be nice to have a local solution and not have to pay extra for it).

yes, 4 meg uncapped. With 120 gigs so far.

Mine does the same now and then, not complaining

It's funny that the guys on the lower packages gets faster download speeds than their actual access speeds and some of us gets much lower download speeds than our actual access speeds.

I am still getting sub 2mb speeds at the moment... :(

This is what I get on my Capped Afrihost Account on a 10mb line.

Test 1.

Test 2.

Test 3.

Test 4.

As you can see, it's jumps around the whole time.

We're aware that things have not gone back up to 100% performance, but it seems like at least it is now at a much more acceptable level. IS are currently working on the network to optimise the upgrade, and are making changes as quickly as they can.

I'm still of the opinion that IS are being too aggressive with their throttling / shaping and that it has nothing to do with the IPC upgrade, especially because I had this same exact problem with Openweb's 4Mbps Gold Uncapped package before I switched to Afrihost. This is the last time I will ever use an IS product. Cancellation sent.
