Note the time of day - I daresay something is still wrong, but there is far less load on the network after hours.

My download speeds have been maxing out at 0.4mbps all night - local speedtest. Anyone else?

I have Super Downloads speed on my Afrihost uncapped (Parow)

Does anyone know what the throttling policies are on 4meg/10meg? I've tried looking for them but cannot seem to find them.

How much have you done this month roadhog?

Hi All

Im currently on the afrihost 10mb uncapped bundel and was considering the business 6 mbps unshaped account.

My Questions are

1) Can I unbundel my ADSL line and data account and cancel the data account and setup my business account in Clientzone ? And if yes how are there additional costs ?

2) I'm a home user so most of my use will be during the afternoon and weekend, will I experience worse internet than the shaped accounts ?

3) What is the threshold ? I would expect more than the 450 GB threshold on the 10mb shaped account?

4) The static IP has been in a coming soon state for ages now, howcome is this and when will they be available, (I don't need 5 static IPs but one will be a fantastic bonus) ?

5) Are these accounts more resistant to cable breaks and failures ?

6) Are these accounts less contended than the shaped ones

7) And finally is the quality really better than the shaped accounts ?

Thanks All :)

10 mb = 450 GB

4 mb = 250 GB

1) You can unbundle at any time and upgrade your account to the new package.

2) The Business account is unshaped so there should be less contention and slightly faster speeds (it should achieve the same speeds as an unshaped capped account)

3) There is a 7 day rolling window threshold, but speeds will always be unshaped during office hours, and only affected after hours

4) At this stage we do not have an ETA for Static IP's but this is looking very likely once we've moved networks.

5) I don't think any ISP account can overcome cable breaks or failures. Even with redundancies, this results in higher contention across all ADSL products. However, we will have more redundancies in place n the new network, so it will be to a much lesser extent.

6) Yes, my understanding is that there is less contention for Business - in that it gets highest priority as with a Capped product.

7) That is difficult to say, we do very little shaping on the normal Uncapped account, so generally we'd like to think speeds are comparable when contention is low. But you should get better performance shaped traffic like torrents, nntp and p2p.

Whew! Now I need a coffee :)

Seems most issues are with 4 and 10Mb lines, my 1Mb uncapped bundle is running as expected, no issues so far. Anyone else have problems with 1Mb uncapped bundle?

How's everyones speeds today in CT?

Had my line speed capped back to 4095/507 instead of it floating between 4500 and 7000 to see whether that would help my speed issues. So far so good but I'm wondering if it's not just a good day for IS.. Unfortunately I didn't have any non IS accounts to test on when the speeds were bad.

Back to normal for me at the moment. Here's hoping it lasts more than a couple of days for a change.

We're hoping the changes we've made will carry on through the weekend and stabilise speeds to an acceptable level.

If I ever want to kill my speeds, I should just post that all is well in this thread :)

Currently barely cracking 300k/sec on NNTP on a 10mb account. But I've come to expect that from IS at this time of day. If it returns to full speed after hours as usual I suppose I can live with that.

and my line is maxing out at 1MBPS again.. seems its around this time of the afternoon every day

Yeah.. roundabout 2pm to just before 6pm every week day, it seems. There's no chance they couldn't have found the congested link by now, so I guess it's been categorised as "good enough".

"Good enough" is not what we aim for, we're really pushing every angle to get it back to "Awesome". Right now we're limited to the current bandwidth limits until the network issues and upgrades get sorted out, and we are assured by IS that this will be done very soon.

We are also learning from this, and planning all sorts of redundancies so that we cater for this type of scenario when we move over to MTN.
