@Afriman, Pm'd you.

Upgraded from 1Mb bundle to 2Mb bundle, same speeds as 1Mb...

Is this the process that can take up to 6 weeks?

There's another post for 1MB to 2MB upgrades on this forum. But what I did today and many others in this post, was to phone telkom on 10219 and ask them to do a port re-set and make sure the line is sync'ing at 2MB. It took me 3 times to phone them back but I came right and now I'm on 2MB. My line is with AH, but you can still phone Telscum direct.

If your line is with us, we should also be able to do the port reset. You're welcome to send me a PM to do so, or to contact our support centre.

Just had Telkom install my phone line this morning and have signed up for an Afrihost ADSL package.

How long does it take to convert the line to ADSL?

It can take up to 30 days to get it activated. If your line is still with Telkom, best to get this sorted before transferring the line to us. We can do it for you, but to be honest it takes a little longer. Less hassle cos we do all the heavy lifting for you :)

@afriman , any news on the proxy cache.afrihost.co.za ?

@Afriman any news on when the MTN change-over will happen? October/Nov..etc?

I'm getting very frustrated with my Afrihost 10Mbps uncapped bundle. I did the switch-over a month or two ago from the 60GB capped product, imagining that for a R50 increase it's worth a shot.

Unfortunately, no.

I'm extremely aggressively shaped. For the past two weeks, if I want to download even a torrent with a lot of seeds and few peers, I rarely get speeds in excess of 50kB/s and quite often it just hovers somewhere under 10kB/s. This is on a 6Mbps line, where I used to always get 600kB/s. I understand that shaping has to take place on an uncapped line, but this is beyond stifling. And this month I my usage currently sits at 90GB, far below what I would have though would be deserving of this kind of shaping.

To test that it's shaping policy, and not some other fault, I ran my torrents through a vpn. Full speed achieved. Usenet, http downloads - all perfect.

I contacted Afrihost's call centre today to make sure this is not a technical fault, and they reset my port - no luck.

I'll find out tomorrow how I can migrate back to my 60GB package, this switch to uncapped wasn't a success. I'm paying more and receiving less.

That must have been during business hours - all consumer uncapped products shape torrents in business hours. I get full 1 megabyte download from about 6pm to 6am with torrents.

Super disappointed in my Afrihost 6Mbps uncapped business account. Works fine during the day, but they throttle me to 384K after hours, and I pay 1500 per month for it!

So off to Mweb I go

Have you checked with another account? Could be congested exchange or something Telkom related.

I phoned them, and that is what they told me. I was expecting a whole lot more!

I phoned twice today, since last night, Been throttle to 384k after hours, confirmed twice - my usage is 250Gb for the month, I mean COME ON!
.
If I payed R500 per month, yes throttle me,but On this package its basically useless after hours.

As on their site - We do however reserve the right to, if absolutely needed, de-prioritize Business ADSL bandwidth outside of business hours.
** We will be introducing Fixed IPs in the near future - at this time we only offer dynamic IPs.
*** Download speed is dependent on the line speed combined with the package speed. Taking a faster package on a slow line will not increase speed.

Hi Griz,

Thanks for the reply. I've considered that as the option, but my shaping problem as it applies to torrents is consistent even well outside business hours. Currently it's 9pm, and I get less that 10kb/s on the popular torrent I'm testing with.

Cant see how you can call it Business ADSL, if its useless after hours
