Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

EXACTLY the same problem! My Afrihost uncapped is soooo slow, but any other capped account is full speed all the way. Problems for about 3 weeks now.

Afriman please help - I have been emailing support for about a week and they still haven't managed to fix it... I simply can't afford R700 a month for what is an after hours 4mb account. I barely get 2mb as it is.

I want to keep this account, I really do. However the speed is just so poor...

Let me clarify:

1. Other accounts run fine.

2. The speed picks up at night.

3. My exchange is not congested.

4. I have never exceeded the throttle limit (max about 50 gigs last 30 days).

Thanks

My slow day time speeds are continuing for 2 weeks now. Afrihost says it's a Telkom problem and I've laid a complaint with Telkom but my own speed test results using the Telkom Guest account vs the Afrihost Uncapped account show otherwise.

Best would be to send me a PM so I can get a consultant to call you back. If you've already logged a call and are not getting feedback, I'll escalate the issue to a support manager to get you some feedback ASAP.

FOX1 , exactly the same issue here, also 2 weeks +- , I have a few colleagues / friends from Centurion and PTA east all with the same issues, and all of us, just during business hours, and swopping to another isp account resolves the issue.

I know weather and some seacom hiccups have been in play as well.
but the latest feedback I got from Afrihost tech support says
"Please note that the changing of the accounts would reset the connection to the exchange."

this is after I asked them why does it run fine on my web africa / telkomsa account, but not on my Afrihost account.
ticket number PJA-479-26791

thanks so far for the help afriman, but i am cancelling my account on friday if this issue persists, initial ticket was logged on the 7th already

Afriman, I've had 2 different consultants get back to me and the problem still persists. I've been with Afrihost for 2 years now (9 months on Uncapped) and I haven't had this problem before.

We are investigating multiple possibilities, so it definitely requires investigating each and every case to see what the issues might be. We are also updating IS with the individual accounts so that they can see whether there is sufficient bandwidth for the Uncapped Users. At this stage, it's strange because if all there was not, we wouldn't have some users reporting full, uninterrupted speeds while we also get reports similar to your own.

Right now we need to keep looking at it until we can pinpoint the cause. Also bear in mind that we are very close to moving networks and IPC and bandwidth are not going to be an issue from that point on.

This is also my problem . I can't even talk on Skype during the day meaning problems in preforming my work .

cancelling my account today, i can just as well pay for a 1mb account because i am getting the speeds of a 1mb account...

why is my speed bad, and a few other people in pretoria are also having bad speeds, while the majority of your userbase dont complain about speeds?

do i just have to accept it as it is as per below ?

*edit* : my speed tests are done on http /ftp , not p2p/nzb/torrents etc

feedback i received from Afrihost tech support

"So the problem definitely isn't with your ADSL line.
I can confidently say that it is the nature of the uncapped product, during business hours priority is given to protocols such as web and email as most businesses rely on that the most during the day, the fact that it speeds up at night is due to the network becoming less busy and bandwidth supply increases.

If you require bandwidth that is unshaped or unthrottled then I would recommend one of our capped packages."

This might be premature considering the change in primary ISP coming up. I have had a similar issue for a couple of weeks where between 13:00 and 17:00 the BW slows down i.e. I am on 4mbp uncapped and I get +-2mb during those hours.

The rest of the time I get full speeds. I do webex audio and video from home, and only once did I have a quality issue (latency when Seacom went down).

I am happy to wait for the ISP move to fix this as it seems to be a capacity issue during those hours - meaning IS capacity.

Funny enough this exact same thing happened yesterday on my line. I won't be throwing the account away yet though as i'm quite happy but I can understand some people's frustration given the standard support responses re: contention and line issues. To me it looked like the throttle was actually throttling even though it was below the threshold. I will be monitoring the situation but if anybody else experiencing similar can collect info it might help to diagnose it

I think the following info would go a way to getting to the bottom of it:

Current IP
Username
Line sync speed
Attenuation
SNR
Speedtest Result Link
Ping to www.google.co.za -t10
tracert to www.google.co.za

And if possible the same 3 test results using a backup account, can PM me to consolidate the info into a report to them perhaps,or direct to Afriman if you don't trust me and my intentions :P

The way I see it is that there is not much into it . Telkom=IS= Afrihost/Openweb.(*If you are using IS account ) They are all throtting during the day to 50% of the line speed . The only difference is that Telkom is saying it upfront

It is rather disappointing that there is a general slowdown during business hours considering we also have these rolling thresholds to contend with. Before my line used to run at full speed irrespective of the time of day.
The slowdown only seems to be between 12pm and 6pm and personally I can live with that bearing in mind what I pay for bundle uncapped. However if that window starts increasing beyond 6 hours I will probably cancel.

I can say on the IS account it isn't supposed to be throttled like that,or my experience was exceptional till yesterday ;) I'd prefer to err that it isn't the norm, but a problem, and identify the root issue

Well...... Those are the results I am getting now on 1Mb account . http://www.speedtest.net/result/2186440669.png .
At 5AM I got something like 1.2MB so it is not the line . This story is more than 3 weeks old . I had been on Openweb and this was the same story with IS.

Expect to get half the speeds of a 1mb account at this rate.

The man at support says it is my line because it syncs at 10010 as opposed to 10014...

Never mind the fact that my capped account works fine all day.

Send the stats to me or Afriman like my earlier post plx
