Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

We don't lock lines onto our network. You can use any ISP account on your line, even if your line has been bundled.

Apologies then. I suppose I made a mistake and used an incorrect password. I will wait to see what the outcome is.

Glad to see it's getting attention :) if you need any more people's info suffering from this strange throttle I got some details

It doesn't seem to be throttling but rather congestion during those hours (the way speedtest bounces around indicates uneven policy). I assume AH have x amount of uncapped bandwidth into IS and this bandwidth is probably running at 100% during those hours, hence a general slowdown across the board.

I also assume business traffic is prioritised, so in these cases congestion will equal throttling of uncapped users?

Roadcat, I saw the exact same phenomena last night on speedtest - Massive spikes most of the time.

@Afriman,

What is the typical turnaround time for ADSL activation once I have my telephone line/number?

Any possibility of doing the first month, 50% off on the bundled packages?

For a new ADSL conversion, it can take up to 30 days, depending on Telkom. We don't offer discounts on bundles, but you won;t be charged on the data until the line becomes active.

In my case, the Telkom techie is coming this Friday to migrate my line to my new residence, so i have the telephone number already. I presume that the ADSL service activation could be shorter because there was an ADSL service previously on the account? Or is this luck of the draw?

If you applied for ADSL with the new line (which I think you can do now), then it should be the same time.

I have to say this is now starting to get really irritating.Noticed today that line was already being throttled from 9.00.am and now I see that even youtube is buffering.I think it is time to cancel and see what happens after the MTN move.

Same speed decrease during Business hours

After 18:00 this is my speeds:

I've used a lot of DATA for the Month, 4.8GB/Day OR 92GB/19 days :erm: but that should still be under the threshold limit for a 2MB uncapped account!

Mostly only download at night and when I am not playing games, which is about 60 Hours per week!

So when there is a solution to this, what seems like plain old throttling. I would like to know about it!

Thanks AfriMAn!

109KB/s today on a 4Mbps line. Even of this is congestion during business hours or still shouldn't be that bad

2nd speed test - 89KB/s these are pathetic speeds

I am getting now 0.24Mb on 1 Mb line basically 1/4 of the speed :(

I am glad to see at least I am not the only one having problems.

Speedtest: 0.91Mbps (On a 4Mb account and line). Why am i paying for a 4Mb account then? This seems to have started recently and is getting worse. Not just torrents and downloading, very bad gaming pings (COD, BF3, HoN etc). Might be inclined to cancel before the 25th and try mweb....

All of a sudden (After 5pm)

Test conducted on 19 September 2012 05:04:52 PM

Download Speed: 3085 kbps (385.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 860 kbps (107.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 37 ms

Did someone flick a switch?! From 0.91Mbps at 4:45pm to 3Mbps at 5:04? This is obviously deliberate...

We are aware that there is a general speed issue on uncapped. While it does not affect all clients, we have noted the comments on this and a few other threads and we are looking into this with IS. We know this is frustrating, but please be assured we are putting every resource in getting to the root of the problem.

Please also be assured that we are very close to our proposed network change. With double the IPC capacity, we expect that these congestion issues will be a thing of the past. You can take it from me that initial testing is going extremely well, and as soon as I have the go ahead I will be posting more info and results here on MyBB.

Hi AfriMan. If this is the case, why isnt the network notice updated to at least reflect that some people are affected? The network is not "fully operational" and its not only 1 person affected. As more people post here, it seems there are a lot of people affected.
