Also the first time I've ever had an IP address in the 105.x.x.x range ;)

hey pgs, IS also seems to route gmail internationally... those pings are good for international.

eg: MWEB's route to mail.google.com is local

michael@macserver:~$traceroute mail.google.com
traceroute: Warning: mail.google.com has multiple addresses; using 74.125.233.21

d7e7r7 Sorry but I do not understand your comment. You bought a 1meg data package from Afrihost. You get 1 meg. If you give them (at todays prices) R100 extra you can up your data to 2meg.
Me myself? I am not sure if I can afford the extra R100 per month.

I'm paying R397 for a 1meg Afrihost uncapped bundle. This was before Telkom upgraded line speeds. So now I have a 1meg uncapped bundle but with a 2meg upgraded line thanks to Telkom. What don't you understand?

I'm not sure if it is because of the move to MTN or not, but tonight was the first night in a long time that my internet connection didn't disconnect during the night.

Nothing is stopping you from changing to a 2 meg bundle. Why talk about it here. Just go ahead and get the 2 meg bundle. I get the impression you want one for free. As in buy a plain ice-cream then complain because it is not choc 99.

My NZBs are coming down at average 471KB/sec on the MTN 4mb account.

Very nice. Can't wait for the full speed switchon.

Im getting similar performance, but have noticed increased latency. The IPC is only in JNB at the moment. Afriman, are there plans to have IPC in CPT too? I would still like sub 10ms pings to CPT servers!

+1 IPC termination in Cape Town is a must...makes a big difference on latency for us in the cape, especially if you got your voip servers in CT

Can you perhaps paste your traceroute to google.cinx.net.za ?

It might be an uncapped routing issue, cos of how the shaping and throttling works. I have asked the guys to look into this. There are IPC's in Durban and Cape Town, so not sure if they are only going to be used on unshaped .... Afriman must look into this and give you guys some feedback.

So guys, it turns out my speed issues are not related to Afrihost. Tested now with a Telkom guest account on SAIX Speedtest. Exact same results.

Just want to say thanks to AfriMan for helping and hope that your Telkom division or whomever it is there that handles that kinda stuff can help telkom fix it.

Does AfriMan like referring to himself in the third person?

Please make them use CPT IPC for uncapped! I know you have nice big arms to arm wrestle with!

indeed.. if CPT users are going to route via JHB then it'll be a total waste of time.
