Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

It seems to have improved a bit now. I'm able to get up to 1Mbps (on a 2Mbps line) with a handful of concurrent downloads.

That's more than I've had. Up until yesterday when I got the MTN test account, I've _never_ been able to get more than 6-700kbps on my (then) 1Mbps and now 2Mbps line. Afriman gave me a capped test account which maxed out my line just fine. The MTN test account has also been maxing out my line just fine until about 2 hours ago.

Well, the problems I've had previously have 100% surely been with Afrihost/IS as they went away when I tried an Afrihost capped or MTN test account.

Our ADSL has been crawling since late Sunday after the local exchange went down (phone lines, and cellphones were dead for a couple of hours). Since then the connection is almost unusable during the day. Websites time out and there's lots of packet loss. This is with an Axxess acount though. Still not sure if it's a Telkom or ISP fault. All I know is something is really wrong somewhere.

indeed.. if CPT users are going to route via JHB then it'll be a total waste of time.

PE also seems to be routing through JHB instead of Cape Town - line speed very erratic and slow, latency all over the place.
And thats after 6 in the evening...

My account has also gone bonkers, the MTN test account's speeds are very erratic, and I can't connect to Steam for some reason.
My normal uncapped account can, however connect to Steam, but it runs at half speed.

I had nonperformance as well. Traceroute looked fine but tcp packets did not come back down the line.
Rebooted router and it worked again

Also, it seems I cannot connect through Apple Update through the Apple Store for my Mac - it times out.... - on MTN
Then I have this funny issue where, through speedtest, the test runs and the "download" speed shows about 3.6mb/s and the downloading then sorta gets stuck in the middle of the test...... and the test does not complete it gets stuck at 2.47mb/s!

Skype stopped working just now. Logged in but it couldnt make calls. Swapped back to the IS account and it worked. Now the IS account is dead and I'm back on MTN. havent tested Skype though.

At this stage we expect that access to IS news server will be affected, and mostly unavailable. We are exploring a news server with MTN, and we'll publish this information as soon as we have a goal in sight. We'll also explore other alternatives should we not be able to setup our own news servers in a reasonable time.

On the MTN Trial....

Can't connect to XBOX Live using the MTN trial account either. Xbox moans about an MTU Error... IS works fine, albeit slow.

Well I was downloading last night on the MTN trial. The speeds werent great. Then I went back to my standard Afrihost account and the speeds remained above 500kB/s until this morning. So maybe Afrihost moved all their HEAVY Downloaders over to the trial, and now the other pipeline is free to flow
