Same. And its the weekend. I am going to move to Openweb next month if this continues. IS have a much better shaping policy. At least I could download at full speed during the weekend. Cant stand this anymore. Migrating my ADSL back to Telkom and cancelling.

And they dont even tell you are shaped. Its so bloody irritating. I love this slogan, "Congratulations!
You are on our brand new MTN network!". Such a lie, the network is so broken its nowhere new or better. Its like having dialup, which I can get R50 a month and will probably perform better

"All systems are performing within specified parameters" <---- Keep living in denial and telling yourself that Afrihost. You probably all have Openweb accounts, since you know your own network is so crap

wow, looks like the speed is back to normal... and its gone!

Edit: Was looking forward to a new release of Foxhound v1.5 for the Galaxy s3.. +- 800mb which would have taken me 30mins to download, but with Afrihost tonite, 2 hours :). Thanks again

Speeds seems to be crashing.

I've been getting full speeds all weekend on my 4Mbps uncapped. Torrents & downloads running at full line speed. No buffering on YouTube & best of all no DC on PS3

Is AfriMan still around? He is usually excellent at responding to PMs but I haven't received any replies for a few days now.

I just got back from a week's leave expecting to find more info about the "focus group", but it seems as though there has been no movement there.

Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated ;)

Sadly the rumour of your networks utter poor performance has not been exaggerated...

Getting 20kbs p2p downloads on my afrihost 1MB line, speedtest @ 60-80kbs. Now I get and understand shaping, but 20kbs... thats poor.

So judging by the small number of PM's this weekend (sorry I wasn't online), seems like things are getting better and more stable :)

Just bear in mind that we're not sitting back at all. Our guys are still working on this, and we have an external company running on a multitude of capped and uncapped products drawing reports on throughput and latency which we are analyzing to see how this corresponds to our own information on network activity. As we get better at maximising the potential of the network, when we add additional IPC capacity, we expect everyone's experience to be awesome-sauce!!

I did see a few guys are still having issues, so please drop me a PM and let's get our support team involved to get better performance. The download shaping is still in place, and I don't have an indication of when exactly this will change, but I know we are working on ways of making it less rigid and giving best throughput where possible.

I've kept off this thread for some time. Performance has improved for real-time apps somewhat, but YouTube and other general browsing in my household doesn't get near expected throughput.

The line is most definitely shaped and the shaping varies so strongly that I've disabled my L7 routing completely as it doesn't make any sense any longer.

Windows updates, driver downloads and other general single threaded downloads have averaged 1/3rd to 1/4 line speed during early evenings.

Well over the weekend I was downloading some HTTP files through a download manager, getting 212KB/s not even dropping unless I start browsing!

But now this morning im doing pretty much the same thing, but with speeds of around 50 - 60KB/s

212 Seems like a pretty MAX for my 2mb line but 60 will be a very bad low then!

Over weekends I surely get my Internet Joy! Not so much during the week

Any capetownians still on Afrihost mind showing a traceroute to firewall1.cpt2.host-h.net ?

Thanks.. still in the region of 40-50ms higher than it should be i see, compared to IS - I do know there is no IPC yet but hoped it may have improved somewhat :)
