It says requires Opera 12+... Your opera is masquerading as v9.80?

No, it clearly says version 12.11 there. Opera stopped updating the 'main' User-agent string version at version 10 because a lot of broken websites would compare only the first character after "Opera/" to see if it was greater than 7, 8, 9 or whatever, and when the user-agent is "Opera/10.00", that test will of course fail. That's when they added the 'Version/xx.xx' to replace it.

I like the new ClientZone.

Ahhhhh...

Maybe the UA filter on the new clientzone is looking at the wrong string then?

Well, they specifically say you need Opera 12 or better, which you would assume means that they've tested it with something less... However, since this fails, one can only assume they didn't test Opera at all.

But the main point is still that whitelisting a subset of browsers and blocking everything else is as stupid as it gets when it comes to websites.

All I was implying was that you sounded very anal about something as trivial as a bug on a site in beta. Maybe I just read the tone wrong of the post, if so I apologise.

Guys

We need to move our thinking away from rolling windows and thresholds. It's never going to work like that, or at least not for now.

We assess the capacity, we look at usage trends, averages, projections and all sorts of things, and we try to be fair in how we shape various clients.

Lots of clients being more heavily shaped should now get some relief, and very heavy downloaders should be feeling the pinch more as we move things around for the best overall (and most fair) shaped experience. Rolling window thresholds are not going to apply, but no matter how your downloads are shaped, everything else should be working at basically full speed (if there are no other infrastructure or strange issues). We believe this is a better way, and when we can fine tune it to the point we envision, we think it will be the best ADSL service we've been talking about.

Afriman if thresholds are out of the window(Sorry i had to) and users are going to be shaped even if they have only used a couple of 100 mbs then it needs to be easy to get that information.

Currently when users are hectically shaped the website says the network is performing brilliantly and that means you have to phone the call center to see whats going on. This is never fun because you have to provide 14 different trace routes, the answer to the universe and if your lucky and Telkom doesn't blamed you might be informed that there is shaping happening.

It just adds to the frustration of being shaped for no reason.

Wow, not the reaction I was expecting ... please let us know when you launch you're next product, we'd love to learn how to do it.

Well we certainly don't release a product that hasn't been tested properly first. Its integral to a release to make sure the client's experience isn't bad. You cant advertise something and when we all try login its so slow, doesn't load, etc. And if your programmers cant manage a proper release, then they obviously aren't good. And I would love to let you know when next product is released, definitely wont be hosted on Afrihost's network.

And sarcasm isn't going to fix the mess-up in your IT department.

Opera issues should be resolved now, can you give it another try?

Looking at all the new information about QoS, etc, I have a question. Will I eventually (in the next few months) see 100KB/s DOWNLOADING at 1PM on a Saturday afternoon on my 1MB line again?

Wow, thanks for that! And I'm sure I'll have only good things to say about your product when you post the link here. Thanks for being a sport.

:)

Guys at Afrihost...we NEED TO get this right. I know LOADS of peeps who are going to just ship at MWEB and they watching this thread VERY, VERY closely.

Q: Is AH a 2nd or 3rd Tier ISP i.e. BW directly from Telscum or a bigger ISP?

@Afriman
Have just sent you a pm.
As can be seen in the pic every thing starts out great and then just drops off. This happens everytime a run a test on speedtest.net.
On youtube I have to keep refreshing the page to stream a video.

This is the million dollar question. I know it is a frowned upon bump, but I need an answer :)

Btw, I like the new skin on client zone.

Yep, it lets me in now. Have you gotten rid of the whitelist? Otherwise I have no shortage of other browsers which will work fine in Clientzone, but which will get rejected :P

Afriman,

Telkom broke my phone line on the 17th and it took them until the 20th to get it fixed, meaning that I had 0 traffic between those dates. This is what the Clientzone graph looks like:

weHOf.png

It completely leaves out the 18th and the 19th from the graph, compressing it, which looks odd to me. Is that a feature or a bug?
