Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

So update, last night gaming went smoothly on BF3, best pings ever at 13ms, from about 11 downloads also went much better, running at about 70kb/s during the day which is okay as long as this changes at 5pm I think, not holding my breath though. Testing steam is interisting to say the least speeds flying between 100kb/s and 50kb/s dropping out to 0kb/s regulary, account using about 75Gb down. Will as usual use about 90Gb's for the month. Now if there is no clear way for me to tell if this makes me an "abuser" then I might as well move somewhere else.

Getting 1/10th of the line speed for download from steam of all places, makes this even more of a bitter pill to swallow. My apologies if I sound hars guys but this is severely frustrating and is ruining the great image I had of Afrihost and actually feel ashamed having recommended you guys to everybody I know. The treshold system worked well, so why not switch to a hybrid system, or create high cap shaped accounts or something, anything has to be better than this. I think 90% of people will agree that we didn't mind downloads running slow during the day, but never being able to get decent speeds is just too much. Anyway /end rant

Appreciate the constructive crit, but also don't think it's fair to speak on behalf of ten of thousands of uncapped users based on solely on reading this forum. Many clients go uncapped because it's convenient and affordable. If that weren't the case, we would not still be in business. Please don't take this as arrogance, but just to give some perspective :)

No, Afriman, I'm going to have to disagree here. You say;

The majority of our users are not heavy downloaders, they just need to get their email when they need it, browse websites without making a cup of coffee in between pages loading, maybe they make the occasional skype call or have kids who do some gaming. And in general these clients are happy, they get what they want when they need it.

So, why do these people then not go for cheaper uncapped accounts such as Axxess' JustSurf or Openweb's Vanilla Uncapped, which will fulfil all these needs at a much cheaper price? I don't really see the convenience in paying double for your needs when a cheaper product will suffice.

Now here's the million dollar question, and I urge you not to see this as an attack, but genuine curiosity: what is Afrihost's shaping policy at the moment, and is it going to change any time soon? There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding this and I'm sure a lot of people would be glad to receive a clear answer on this. Currently I'm seeing some members claiming full speed downloads at night, while others say they seem to be getting shaped to between 50kbps - 100kbps on 4mb and 10mb lines.

This is my opinion, but I don't really think shaping your clients to a quarter or 1/8th of their download speed, even during business hours, is really an acceptable shaping policy. Now here's where clarity needs to be given imo, is Afrihost Uncapped basically JustSurf with very minimal downloading being allowed, or are the current download woes just temporary and will go away once the network gets sorted out?

Don't really care much for the new client zone, just hope my Adsl account speed is good when i get home.

Afriman. You still ignoring my previous posts aswell :-)

Jeesh this QoS is broken up the whazoo,Torrent going 300KB/s,NNTP in comparison maxxing at 28KB/s from 3 servers

I have a problem with the new Clientzone.
I can not see a Monthly summary or a day summary?

If you go look on hello peter, we can all see that no one is happy at the moment, afriman I think you will lose more clients then you then you think. This problem is very similar to webafrica where they didn't have enough bandwidth and every one on their network had a bad experience.
