Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Throttling during office hours is standard for uncapped in any ISP. Only thing that annoys me is the current definition of "business hours".

Hahaha. Yes Afrihost, business hours are from 7:00 to 24:00 and people do work 17 hour days. I think your rather use the keywords like --> we shape during all hours except at the dead of midnight when non one is awake, because clearly you aren't just shaping during business hours.

I am loving my Openweb trial account. Downloaded 50 gigs so far. OK I am shaped during business hours (8:00 - 17:00) buts that fine because I am at work then, and when I get home at 17:00 I am totally unshaped. Now that's how you treat a customer. Thats how Afrihost treated us when they were with IS.

I don't know why you didn't do simple market research and find out that basically everyone hates MTN because of their crap service. Vodacom has by far the best mobile internet in SA.

And Afriman no little sarcastic comments you make are going to get you out of the hole Afrihost is digging under you by shaping basically 24/7. This isn't actually a joke, its very serious and from my point of view you don't see it as serious. You are just here to keep the masses happy with "political type" promises, where in real life we aren't seeing any change at all in the pathetic service.

And please don't use Telkom as a scapegoat because that a load of BS, since its funny that everyone on other ISPs, their Telkom lines are perfect but everyone on Afrihost has "Telkom line" problems. Yeah right. Telkom has actually gotten a lot better and I have been very impressed with them lately, service is impeccable and they treat me like a proper CLIENT

Seriously this is ridiculous. Getting less than a 1/16th of my line speed on a 1Mbps line.

Last week downloads were throttled to 30KBps now it is 7KBps. It is so slow my download dies if I have two as both have to share 7KBps.

I have downloaded 39Gb this month, past 10 days only 6Gb yet I am being throttled to hell.

+ 1.

People don't seem to realise that on the Afrihost website the last 2 weeks they have claimed "network fully operational". So this crappy performance is what they consider acceptable.

600 kB/s on torrents and streaming online music at 11am.

Best I've had for a while :)

Well I am moving, because obviously its never going to change. The way we are currently shaped is here to STAY, they just don't want to admit to it (obviously since its so much worse then all other ISPs shaping policies) and keep going on about "it will get better". That is all up in the air and they are just trying to blow us off like we will eventually forget about it. The problem is we will never since its the INTERNET and eventually everyone will just get fed and leave. Whats the point in waiting to see if it might get fixed when we all know that a load of rubbish. Just jump ship now before it blows up

Thanks for the feedback :)

Can I opt for flexi working hours?

We have offices in multiple countries with different time zones

Unless you are on Business uncapped - you will not get the normal great speed - this was the same when we were on IS.

No, on IS I was never throttled to 1/16th, 1/8th or even 1/4th of my line speed. 1/16th line speed during 'business hours' (read: 99% of the time) is not normal and not acceptable. If I had wanted a 128kbps line/account, I would have ordered that.

This is a very good point. I still see on social media, hellopeter and many forums people complaining all about the same thing. Then you see Afrihost support acknowledging the problem and stating that it is being worked on. Where the site says "fully operational", support on teh internetz says "we're working on it". What am I missing here?

If I want to cancel my account before the 25 of this month will I be billed for another month ?

No cancel now before the billing run, which happens on the 25th. Then you wont get billed for next month. I cancelled this morning. My account will automatically be cancelled on the 30th.

Correct

Im on business uncapped 10 meg and still getting slow speeds through the day. Is that still normal? I have lost track with whats considered acceptable with Afrihost. I get around 4 meg. I consider that slow, but maybe thats considered normal now.

Pete

Thanks for the feedback on the cancellation.

Pleasure. So if you don't want them next month, then you have to cancel before Sunday, else you will have to wait a month to cancel and/or deal with disputing a debit on your account

Not sure how long Afrihost expect people to just be understanding and wait for things to be fixed, all the while charging them full price for a quarter of the service. 100kb download rate on afrihost on 4mb uncapped, 400kb download rate on openweb 4mb uncapped, both tried on the same file. Seriously, stop this throttling to a quarter linespeed nonsense (everyone knows its what you are doing so don't deny it) while tellling people it's their line, stop trying to retain people with "big announcements" that turn out to be damp squibs and stop making empty promises (once we move to MTN everythings gonna be awesome!....)

You can't expect people to be patient while taking their money I'm afraid.

Well said... We should all be refunded.. Directors should stop getting their fat bonuses and we should be refunded or at least give a "free month" for their mess up. Its only fair.
