Afriman, why is my VPN connection (to my company) extremely slow on Afrihost 4Mbps Uncapped?
My company has different locations for VPN connections, e.g. Germany, Finland, UAE. I tried all locations, but the connection speed is pathetic compared to when I am on FNBConnect.

Explain?

It's a bit hard to explain without knowing any details :(

As far as I'm aware, VPN should get high priority but it would depend on what protocol is being used. Running traceroutes should also give us a better idea of where the delays are.

But anyway, would rather you dropped me PM with some info so that we can find the problem.

This is a good example where Afrihost should take a specific customer, and the network guys should sort of specific issues such as this and consult directly with the customer. Maybe it's already happening?

LOL! I'm on the West Rand (Roodepoort) and my company is on the East Rand (Boksburg).

When I connect to our server via VPN, it is also painfully slow!
We have a 12MB link there and I have a "so called" 4MB link here!

Before the move to MTN, I connected via VPN first time, every time, and the link was fantastic!

Now, I have to try at least 4 or 5 times before I get a connection, then it keeps dropping me ever few minutes!

Why is this happening Afriman?

OH, I was busy doing a tracert to paste here, but just remembered that I'm using the free 7 day MWEB trial which is running 100%.
Will try and change over a bit later to show you.

Interesting, I also signed up for the MWEB 7 day uncapped trial account. How is your experience on MWEB so far?

I haven't gotten more than half my line speed all day today.
Takes 14 seconds to load the myadsl homepage.

Download :: 834 Kbps 104 kB/s Upload :: 317 Kbps 40 kB/s

My Speeds seem to have stabilized. I have been doing average of about 5 GB per day this month, and my speeds been mostly stable @ 90KB/s on 1MB line all day.
I am starting to be happier, just a shame this improvement is too late for my business account which I will be signing up with another provider. For the time being my home account will stay with AH... Hope they can keep up my speed.

So essentially, during the day i can expect to receive half my line speed and during the night i get full? So half my speed for half the day, does this mean i now pay HALF my account fees for the month as im only receiving half of what im supposedly paying for? I have a 2mb account, ive never downloaded more than 120gigs in a single month, last month i did a whoping 60gigs or whatever. Ive used 6.8gigs this month but im being shaped completely. Yeah sorry Afrihost, im going to be telling customers to no longer sign up with you. I have several customers looking for high end business lines whom ill now be sending to mweb. Good work Afrihost!! As for myself, think ill cancel this account and get myself a Plugg account through Standard bank R319pm for a 2mb uncapped account.

Not even 10 seconds apart tell me which is better.

Don't forget that Afrihost have their system set up to give as much bandwidth to Speedtest.net as possible, so you can't use Speedtest.net to measure what speed you're getting from Afrihost. It's more accurate to start downloading some big file and see what speed you get out of the download.
