Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Hmm, any particular reason why one is site shows better speeds than the other?

Because testmy is single tread test and speedtest is multi threads. Best I get from there is 2.2-3.0 using mweb...

Anybody else only getting 7kB/s on 1mb line? This is the worst it's been for me.

Afrihost have whitelisted Speedtest.net so it doesn't get affected by their throttling. It is also why using Speedtest.net on Afrihost is pretty pointless.

Well its 8:50Pm and my browsing speeds are 30kbps on my 2meg account. This is the last straw im afraid.

HTTP is giving me the biggest headaches. I'm not getting above 16KB/s downloads, and that has been the case for the past week (most of the time, not always). Torrents would go full speed, Youtube buffering and even browsing, but never HTTP downloads.

Where did you see this?

On this very forum. And with my own eyes. When Afrihost have confirmed that they give certain websites (such as Youtube) extra priority and we know that everyone and his cat who reports 1/16th speed on their Afrihost account also somehow magically get full speed on Speedtest.net tests, it doesn't take a PhD in computer science to realise what is going on.

Yay, my http is up to 40kB/s now, which i wouldn't mind if i got that all day till about 6pm. Not 11pm :(

HTTP downloads pathetic!
Its a 3MB PDF document from the DWAF website!

It is because of this that I am considering jumping ship!

Hey guys, I need some advice, based on your experiences. I have been on Afrihost's 1Mbps business uncapped for about a week, with "normal" 1Mbps speeds basically all the time, night and day. I can afford a better package (or at least I'm trying to convince myself of that) and I'm thinking of the 4Mbps uncapped bundle (ADSL and line), not the business one though. Based on their performance on my 1Mbps account (which is great), I hope I will get normal 4Mbps speeds? Can anyone offer advice as to what I may expect?

Thanks

You show a complete ignorance of how the Internet works... ;)
You need to learn about receive and transmit windows, latency and related concepts to understand why a single stream will always be slower than multiple streams.

Meanwhile, are afrihost also prioritizing nntp?

By your logic, they are.

I'd be happy if my single streams always hit line speed :D
