They will say Qos blah blah blah but my experiences and many others is this : 8am - 1am - 1% torrent line speed, 10% http download speed , 70% youtube speed . 1am - 8am - everything becomes full line speed. So yeah at the moment Qos is nothing more than a fancy term for throttling. Im glad i only have one more week to suffer through it, the last few months have been an absolutely horrible internet experience.

I'm not sure how you arrived at these figures, and it's not the case from a general network perspective. From what we have measured on average speeds, based on the users bandwidth trends, even the heaviest users are not shaped to that extent. It is a dynamic system, but it is possible for a user to have a more or less consistently shaped experience (on downloads only) if they are one of the heaviest users. But generally clients will have different day to day experiences based on the available capacity and their individual usage. This applies only to downloads, as real time services should be at premium level at all times of the day.

Ummm I was getting fully line HTTP speed when I last checked at 5pm.

Wow, your really are an Afrihost-fanboi with only 150 posts to your name.

I'm with Fritz, AH screwed up and they need to take the full blame

Ironic I'm using my OpenWeb account to make this post as my AH account prevents me from doing more than one thing at a time.

Cute :D

I just said it right here :
my experiences and many others
Speaking to other people and reading comments in this thread. I would go back through the thread and pick them out for you but that's time consuming and im feeling lazy :p.

Well i can only tell you the service im experiencing and what ive heard from others. Yes i have seen some users talk of better priority then what i explained in the previous post but they seem to be the minority.

The problem is you guys really ever have any available capacity so your Qos is constantly "throttling" the speed eg 8am - 1am. Also your definition of "real time" services has been way off the mark for these last few months. Its evidenced by your recent shift in the rules for qos http download speeds. Something else thats just too little too late.

Did you all get that email from Gian about the"mistake" that was made? I replied to yet and am yet to get a response...

:D

Not to put you down, but can you imagine how many emails that man must be getting? From scams, customers, job seekers, freaks, panda bears and you. I'd rather just PM Afriman. Seems much, much, much simpler.

I cannot even pull 2GB and I'm on a 1MB
Lol, took me 5 days to DL 2gb last week, think i was being throttled to shyte and my usage for the month is somewhere on 70gb. For a 2mg line, that's not bad IMO.

Running at a solid 7kB/s downloading my files from box.com because we all can all wait 2 weeks for our data.
lol, Im currently coming down at 16kb... :D If i don't laugh about it, I might break my pc! :p
Btw, in my previous post, i meant that 70gs for the month wasn't bad, not the fact that it took 5 days for a 2gb file to download.

i am also running at 6kb/s with bursts as high as 20 kb/s. Thats just 10kb/s slower than my 384 line... I did 37 gb to date this month. I tried to get on your super abuser leader board but kinda hard at 6kb/s. Sorry about all the sarcasm but just sick and tired of this and of people saying we are not being shaped, or throttled.

You all must have congested exchanges or some other issue.

This is going to end to a post about kitchens in 3... 2... 1... :p

If the exchange was congested would my line speed still be the same if i change to another isp? I get full line speeds on a capped account and about 90kb/s on another trail uncapped account. I am pretty sure it's not congested and how can so many other people get exactly the same speed?

Having some issues too tonight...

Guys who are getting 6 or 7 kB per second?

Firstly, just to confirm if we mean kilobits or kilobytes, because different downloads managers use whichever is they prefer.

Are we talking torrents, NZB's or are these HTTP File tranfers or download managed files? Please send me a PM with the file link, along with your username, your line sync and a speedtest result where you're not doing anything else except speedtest.

This will help me figure out if this is a QoS issue, or if there is something else going on.

Thanks :)

Maybe the microwave is interfering :p

In all seriousness though...

Whereabouts are you? Maybe the congestion is between you and the IPC in joburg...? And other ISPs have different routes to their IPC from the Telkom Adsl network? It doesn't make sense for performance to be so dramatically different especially when I'm a higher volume user (100GB this month) and doing straight nntp, not even SSL. I'm the one who should be throttled if any.

my torrents are flying at the amazing speed of 5kb. i was getting better speeds with dial up a few years ago. even my iburst connection that i use at work is better than my afrihost connection and that says alot. if afrihost don't sort out their issues soon, i most probably will be jumping over to telkom as their new pricing structure for adsl is excellent. and they wont be throttling anymore. so afrihost, either sort out your issues or you will definitely be losing customers to telkom or other isp's

Good point, but neither 6/7 kilobits or kilobytes is very good. :D

Speeds seem slower in general for me. Youtube, http, etc. But it's not 6/7 kb/kB bad.
