Steam dl's are averaging 350-400+Kb/s at the moment, Gamersgate download running at 60-70Kb/s, minecraft running smoothly, youtube vids playing with minimal buffering and skype running fine. And all these services being used concurrently over 3 PC's and 3 androids.

So +1 to AfriHost

Hi Afriman

I was wondering if you can clarify something for me with regards to the shaping?

I have a 1MB uncapped and although speeds in December was awesome, since roughly the first or second week of Jan I've had terrible speeds when it comes to downloads.
Some HTTP downloads only ran at 2kb/s and the speeds from the AH news servers are about the same, I don't do torrents really mostly NZBs but the speeds are the same when I checked.
Not sure that it's because I am deemed a high user (with a total download of 40GB at the time speeds became really bad) or the fact that a lack of a IPC down here in Cape Town atm is the cause.

I can understand that downloads are shaped during the day, but most of the time I still see these speeds way after 12am.

anyone else seeing these same issues, especially in the Cape Town area?

Speeds were generally pretty good on Uncapped over December on downloads as there was much less demand on our network than previously. This would also have decreased contention for international traffic, which generally has a big effect on downloads (and also NZB's depending on which services you use).

Real time services should have been pretty consistent throughout, and will remain so throughout the day. As soon as our extra capacity is activated by Telkom, we expect downloads speeds during the day, and at night to improve.

We've made revisions to our QoS to improve HTTP services. If you're getting 5-6kbps though, there's definitely something strange. We've tested downloads on some of our heaviest users accounts (to replicate their usage profile for QoS) and we still averaged over 200kbps on HTTP downloads.

Drop me a PM so we can chat about this further and see what can be done :)

Wow ... what is happening tonight.
Tried resetting my router, but the net is crawling ... it's taking time to load even small images.
Afriman? Any ideas

Speeds seem to be back up, but ping times are way off.

Well that is it for me, cancelled Afrihost, waiting for Monday, going to signup with another ISP.

When it takes 3 days to download one 30min TV episode, that is less than 5 days old on usenet, you have to think about changing to another ISP, especially when this slowness has been going on for a couple months. (btw, I tried out that MWEB 7 day demo, and managed to get around 9gigs per day for the full period, so it can not be a problem on my line, equipment or software.)

Afrihost, you are the weakest link, Goodbye.

Strange I get, 7KBP/S according to pan ......... without p2p running.. p2p on it's own also says 7 k's.

I hope Afrihost considers lowering their 2mbps Uncapped bundled price, considering that Telkom is now cheaper. If Afrihost doesn't show a massive improvement next month or a price drop, I will most likely move over to Telkom. Speeds during the day for non surfing text based websites are terrible. Only time I can use my line speed maxed is from 2 AM. Even Telkom's current throttled speeds are better than what I get during the day with Afrihost.

But will see what happens next month.

My line went down over the weekend, and only came back on at about 4pm yesterday afternoon. Afrihost does give some really good service in this regard en helping me and sorting things out with Telkom. HOWEVER. This is not enough reason to hang around, I really like the service, but I'm giving them until the end of Feb to sort things out. Benefit of the doubt and all, ya'all.

Also, I was late in giving notice before the 25th. So that... as well.

Sorry about that. There were (are) several Telkom exchanges down from the weekend, so not sure if you were affected by this.

Thanks for giving us the benefit. We really expect that when our IPC is lit up by Telkom, things will be extremely awesome. Drop me a PM if you have issues like this, so I can check out why you not able to connect.
