The one moment it is perfect the next moment ****ed.
Is it because I mentioned on which Exchange I am on- getting targeted now?

Certain exchanges which are congested or oversubscribed will have similar symptoms. Especially going into late afternoon / evening, when people are jumping onto the net in residential areas.

So how can AH help put pressure on Telkom to upgrading those exchanges? If I can't use my 4Mb to its potential when I'm home after work, what's the point of paying for 4Mb?

Downgrade for me = less revenue for AH. :)

It's not always worth downgrading. If you're getting 50% of your 4Mbps, chances are you'll get 50% of whatever line speed you opt for - if it's congestion or cable related.

But if you're line is with us, we'll log with telkom and chase them up. Upgrading exchanges is tricky, as that goes to a cabling and budget department, and we cannot access them directly. It is definitely possible, but it's a bit of a process. But we'll be with you every step of the way and put as much pressure on Telkom as we can until they find a workable solution for you.

I think the new IPC is suppose to bring better ping and latency for CT, and give the JHB IPC a bit of a breather. But I don't it will change the capacity much. They will probably relax the shaping and throttling a bit though.

Oh, I was under some different impression. I didnt realize it was only latency that was going to be quicker.

So the D/L is really crappy (sorry) and latency better (though not as good as the weekend where had 165ms on Sat for a period of time). Surely on a 4MB line the D/L should atleast be over 2MB? I have to admit that, that speed is kinda normal and thats after a full reboot, modem recycle and fix my line... had brilliant or Pure Internet Joy for about 3hours on Sat and now all i have in latency under the norm of 210ms... They have 60% more capacity now...

8Gbps -> 13Gbps

What?? Seriously? Where did you hear that? We've been strung along for months in Cape Town getting sometimes max 20% of advertised throughput and told hang on, hang on, the new IPC is coming, so TRUST ME we are expecting a heck of a lot more than better latency.

Latency still looks good, similar to weekend.

Download speed on even Capped is very bad!! The speed suddenly dropped after the latency went wacked yesterday, latency recovered but the download speeds are down the drain atm.

Someone has applied the brakes, pulled the hand brake, thrown out the anchor, and applied reverse thrust all at ones?

Well, the only thing I'm noticing in Cape Town is better international d/l speed 1 - 1,5mbps on a 4mbps line, so not too bad compared to previous experience. However, straight http downloads from JHB from CPT also 1 - 1,5 mbps.

Aah, and also no longer seem to be routing to the Cape Town Hetzner data centre via Jhb.

Maybe they will release the brakes, lift the anchor and put the engines in full forward thrust when they do the "Official" launch announcement of the IPC! "me holding thumbs"

Do I understand it right that Afrihost users from Cape Town still think that it is people from Cape Town being persecuted and Afrihost users outside Cape Town are getting an excellent service?

No, we don't believe we're being persecuted, but we've been repeatedly been told by Afrihost support and on this forum that the reason why we've been getting periods of crappy throughput is the lack of an IPC in Cape Town.

I move between JHB and CPT all the time, and CPT has definitely been marginal for a long time.

well my exchange seems to have repaired itself and pings are great again - but 1.9MB speedtest on a 4MB uncapped account isn't very good (local+int)

the excitement of a new ipc made me come back i hope it's not just going to stay at this.

Au contraire, it's repeatedly been mentioned that EVERYONE (except a few persons who pop in and claim they get full line speed always) gets throttled, regardless of geographical location.

I'm getting 1/16th the promised speed. I'm nowhere near Cape Town.

Anyway, I'm just curious about people who seem to have a persecution complex. Over and out.

Who has a persecution complex? Cape Town people? Have you not been following the saga of the IPC (or lack thereof) in Cape Town? I have specific responses from Afrihost, which, rightly or wrongly attribute my complaints about poor performance to the lack of an IPC facility in Cape Town, which problem has hopefully been rectified.

I'm not sure this translates into a "persecution complex"?

If you are in another part of the country and are also experiencing poor service, then I suggest you take it up with Afrihost??

Getting 3.6Mb/sline tests, Tera Rising (previously Tera-online), 49.5gb downloaded overnight

Everything seems normal
