Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I am dead in the water here. Can we get this resolved!!!

I read an article couple of months back, where a German court ruled that ISP's will be liable for compensation/damages for Internet downtime.

This is the link: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2239144/german-court-rules-internet-is-an-essential-part-of-life

I think this needs to also happen in South Africa.

@AfriMan - I am not saying that this is an Afrihost fault but we are your customers, and ultimately you answer to us.

So if it is a Telkom fault which would make you their customer they need to answer to you.

Bottom line is, because in South Africa as with everything there is no accountability for anything and
no one is ever held responsible and taken to task the level of service is shocking.

Once again I am not pointing fingers at Afrihost but we are your customers and not Telkoms.

What are you going do do about this?

"Accountability is a major factor in supplying you customers with great service"

Vote with your wallet. Only company immune to the wallet vote is Telkom and more than likely it's their fault.

That is my point. Telkom/MTN/Whoever needs to answer to Afrihost if it is their fault, but not only answer, they need to be held accountable, but I am not Telkoms/MTNs/Whoevers customer I am Afrihost customer.

As I mentioned before, if you know that if your customers will experience downtime and that it will cost you money in compensation/damages, you will make sure that it does not happen. Right? Ofcourse you will.

Looks like we've had to route alternatively for CT users until Telkom sorts things out. Will keep you guys updated as I get more info.

Service should be better, but still impacted until it's fully restored in CT. Users in other region should not be impacted as there is enough capacity to absorb additional traffic.

So nothing from them on when this might resolved, or even what the issue is for that matter?

Ping to Europe is 600 ms. And the internet just decides to stop. Real problem when gaming. This after the website showed network fully operational.

My 4mb line! This is pathetic....

Afriman what is going on? Seems its not only CT users experiencing problems

I think that a little unfair though. We had a few issues in Feb when the IPC went live, and since then performance reports have been great up until yesterday. That's definitely more than 3 days. While we've had some hosting issues, ADSL was not any time affected, as far as I recall :(

No, I don't think it's unfair at all. The IPC went live when, 25/26 Feb? Much of the following week was followed by "fine tuning" issues. Then a few days of good day time speeds, and at least one day disrupted by unspecified Telkom ADSL issues prior to yesterday, and as others as well as myself have experienced < 100kbps at night.

Here is my speedtest history going back to the end of Feb - as you can see the line can get 3mbps but only in the mornings and just once overnight on 7 March:

The issue is not limited to Uncapped, but it seems to affect clients intermittently

Yeah I maybe did not make myself clear. I don't have uncapped, I do have a small capped account as backup and I have a hosting account, but havent been affected by the Cpt problems.

I basically posted because some guys were mentioning that speeds have slowed down again, so I just passed on the info I had at thatstage.

In future if the lesser provinces and regions have problems, cut them off until it is fixed. No need to for Gauteng users to suffer and have to share some of their IPC.

If you agree +1, if not go and braai some snoek.

Hi Guys

It looks as though there is something similar to yesterday's issue happening. It seems to be on Telkom's side of the IPC and their people are working on this.

Performance may feel worse than yesterday, as we have not used alternate routing at this stage. The problem is intermittent so we're still hopeful it can be fixed in good time. If we don't see reasonable progress soon, then we will have to consider alternatives.

I'll let everyone know as soon as I have more information on this :(

Haven't been using the other line in the house but this sounds crazy bad. PLEASE don't switch off the shaping once things settle as it cannot be that :).

Just keep us updated or get that charming lady to post here to keep us updated regularly. I think we as the clients get abit vocal when things are silent from yourside. That isn't to say that you guys haven't been communicating with us alot but just need regular updates :p.

Even a ustream of the network status will help :D.....;-) that we saw in that *****m shake video.

Lol

... Lesser provinces... Aren't we in the smallest though? :-)

I agree cut them off. We all know how slowly things happen in Cape Town. So why do they need fast internet anyway, or internet at all.

We also know that from Friday round about 10:16:33am they don't do any work in any case, cause they have started their weekend already. LOL.

Jealously really makes you nasty:D .... hahaha actually we start our weekends on Wednesday afternoon;)

We not jealous we just want our bandwidth. LOL. And I think they did not teach us in Gauteng as little kids how to share.;)

I assume you're trolling, but for the sake of argument let me just say that, despite having grown up in Johannesburg, I have come to realise that Gauteng in all aspects other than shopping malls, is distinctly "lesser" to just about every other province.
