I agree, although in the last couple of months it does feel like we've taken a couple of steps back. In Cape Town at least. I don't feel that I get the same value that I got 6 months ago any more. Internet issues were normally a rare occurrence. Now it feels like a weekly thing... sometimes more than once a week.

Agreed.

I really do hope Afrihost can stabilise their ****, because they're the one company amongst my debit orders I really don't mind giving money to. But the sheen is wearing thin...

Oh dear, back to the nightly < ~1mbps speeds and international in the toilet. Oh well, at least we had almost 24hrs :(

I ran some tests on my side - throughput seems to be normal on international and local. Been running some test on 4Mbps line, and all seems good.

Is it mainly guys in Cape Town having issues, or elsewhere?

I'm not sure what you guys are experiencing, but I'll keep testing to see what's

Not sure about where-else it could be but CPT seems slow again, after most of the day been good....

International seems to be better now but still not 100%: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2566754246.png

I'm in PTA

If you read the quote again, it says we're diverting onto EASSy.

Will ask our guys to look into the virgin site. Will get back to you on that :)

From your site:
There has been a cable break affecting traffic over the EASSY link. Traffic has been routed via other alternative paths and there is no impact on latency to international sites. Engineers are investigating the cable break.

www.virgintrains.co.uk loads fine, it's when it redirects when you try to purchase a ticket that it breaks

'Tis better now, AfriMan... Up until an hour or so ago the speeds in Jo'burg were horrendous, but things seem to have normalised.

As a bit of an aside, where should I start if I want to get to the bottom of why I simply can't stream a 720p Youtube clip? A 4 meg line (actually 4 meg account on a 10 meg line) should be more than ample, but I haven't been able to for months. Wasn't ever much of a bother, but it's now starting to get annoying.

*edit*

My line's also with you guys...

I do not think the blame is squarely at the door of AH. Telkom is responsible for a lot of the issues imho.

Cape Town. Speed is ok. Latency is kind of high again.

International is restored. Apologies for the confusion, it was a break on EASSy, so traffic was diverted on WACS. This north-south, left-right business is confusing this time of night.

Cable has been repaired and is back up, service should be as normal now :)

@AfriMan - I dunno what's going on with my connection, been wonky since 09:00PM-ish

Presently the only device connected to the internet at home is my PC and only two programs accessing internet for the sake of isolating the problem - Firewalled as well

And without the firewall?

We're not experiencing any general issues on the network now, IPC is running nicely in JHB and contention is almost zero. If you're getting such slow speeds, it's not likely to be the network.

Drop me a PM and let's try a few things :)

I give up :(

And without the firewall?

My connection is and has always been firewalled, what I meant to say was that I am monitoring both my router and no device (known or unknown) is leaching my wifi and there's no suspect apps on my PC downloading or uploading anything, now malware etc.

but even with the firewall shut down:

Speeds are terrible again since last night. Speedtest sites wont even load. I've about had it now. Its now time to bail. Seems like its never gona be fixed.

I wonder if Afrihost will hold their end of the deal as they say "Double Money Back GuaranteeTry us out and if you decide to leave us within the first 60 days we'll pay you DOUBLE your money back. No risk for you. All the risk for us" ???

Its really been an awful experience.
