AfriHost uncapped ADSL here soon

Just waiting personally to see if Cybersmart will do anything. Joined them a few years ago and hope that they will also do something otherwise I will have to leave and am sure a ton of others have and will. Loyalty can only take you so far because Cybersmart is not going to give me the extra money we pay them to use on our families (ISP loyalty is 2 months for me before I have to look at something cheaper). Got all the plans as well with them so I can download 5x during weekday nights and 10x during weekends which is great but only during those times can you get bang for your cap. I would like to download whenever I want thanks, I want to browse without fear of cap killing. Lol. Basically I want Mweb / Afrihost deals as well from my ISP. 2c take it or leave it. :)

I totally agree with you on the 2 months thing...
Now days 2 months an the ISP market = alot of changes!!
So I'm content to wait it out...
why bother switching to Mweb if there is a chance you will switch back to your original ISP (AH :)) It's so much effort! to save like R100

In terms of power users I really don't see myself downloading more than say 20 - 30GB a months... i mean ya i dl on occasion 3GB a day but there is only so much time for watching, surfing, playing an listing on the net...

I think people just gotto relax with raping the bandwidth... I mean do u really need to dl that HD movie from 1990 or what ever..
I personally like the mkv's.. Awesome quality at a fraction of the size...

This kind of thing would help ISP's cope with demand for bandwidth and all users would benefit..

I'll give my ISP (sainet) until the end of the month to see what they come up with. Then I'll decide. I feel, though, for the smaller ISPs - I don't think they have the financial resources that match the gorillas. I don't know if they can last in this new environment.

People will calm down with bandwidth rape when the realize they dont need to download everything. People will are going bandwidth mad as its something new they havent played with.
Hopefully abuser will get dealt with. Nothing worse than that 5% who ruin it for the other 95%

so, tomorrow when / if Telkom offers uncapped 8MB/s @ R250pm, will everyone run to them? I really hope so! I can only but shake my head at the mentality of some people on this thread. customer loyalty and quality supports means jack right now!

I, for one, will not be running to them. There are some companies that I just don't want to deal with, based on past history, and Telkom is top of that list. I'll wait for the Afrihost offer, and if it's close to the Mweb offer, I'll take it, based on past history with the company, and because I'm currently using them as my ISP, and won't have to fill out forms again etc.

Definitely! I have not had many problems at all with Telkom.

Overall I have to admit this is just plain exciting. We are seeing "CAP" start the death they deserve.
Its a good week in South Africa for IT.

If tomorrow there are no new developments then I'm signing up with Openweb methinks. I can always cancel at a later stage and switch.

There is a place for it. You still have caps in Europe, albeit high (in the 50 - 70GB regions) but they do still have a function. Of course this is a mayor breakthrough and surely will shake things up in the ISP business :D

Yeah but in Europe, we don't abuse the uncapped services. Only a handful like 10 million users out of the 300 odd million who use the internet abuse it. (+500 GB a month)
Same thing in your country but on a smaller scale.

I never understand those who download more than they need. You don't buy clothes you never wear, so why should you download stuff you don't even use/watch?

I never download more than 80-120GB a month anyway. The most recorded usage I had was 200GB in a month an never again. Then again I'm not a hardcore gypsy who likes to hord crap. LOL!

You run a 70-user business and you're using a consumer DSL product ISP for your mail server!? No offence, but hire some IT guys who know what they're doing, or you most certainly will have problems. As for the facts you claim, they sound dubious to me ... I find it hard to believe that their mail server has a 2MB mail size limit. (I use Afrihost, but we have our own mail server.)

For the BW we use vs. Diginet etc the price is right! (It has been working with SAIX for years! - from the start of Telkom ADSL just about) Oh, BTW I am the IT guy... OK, I don't claim to be some super hot network admin, actually a dev, but if you have suggestions, PM me then I can give the the overall structure (2 x 4Meg ADSL, 1 x 1M diginet, VPN's, proxy servers, FW, mail etc) and surely you will then understand... oh and cost is a BIG factor... we do live in the poorest province in SA afterall.

100% with you on this one. I also do not understand the mentality, maybe bragging rights with their peers.

By moving to the ISP offering the best deals - you're forcing other ISPs to offer similiar deals - nothing wrong with it.

Me cant wait just want uncapped ! Spending R290 on 10GB nw hopefully will be less then that for uncapped :erm:
