Hey guys :)

Well I still haven't made up my mind. I am doing a lot of research on ADSL ISP's because I want to get a 4Mb/s Uncapped account. I have been considering MWEB for a long time, but a lot of people complain about extreme shaping and pathetic service. So now I am looking at Afrihost.

Excl voice line rental it would cost R910 a month for 4Mb Uncapped (shaped). But how is Afrihost's service and shaping, compared to MWEB?

Mweb for sure.

Afrihost is nothing but horror stories, i don't think i have heard one good thing about the product.

if you are going to download allot , then mweb is better as afrihost will throttle you based on usage.

Ok cul, yeah I was asking because I actually don't know of anyone using an Afrihost account.

@hereticangel

Well how much is a lot? Is 50 - 75 GB a month a lot?

BTW, how much do you people that have MWEB 4MB uncapped accounts download a month?

sometimes it does give problems etc.

though most okes having streaming problems these days.

Yeah, one of my friends has a 4Mb uncapped MWEb account and the Youtube streaming seems very crappy yes... But for me torrents is top priority. After that is ping, and then streaming and browsing...

Torrents and mweb is also not that wonderful, if you want the best experience bud you will need to add in a couple hundred more and get openweb gold.

Mweb is shocking for streaming, one of the reasons i got rid of the account. I just cannot grasp why i cannot stream a simple normal youtube vid on a 4 meg line, now i am on openweb gold and it works like a dream.

*sigh* Also trying to make the same decision. So are all the "other" 4 mb uncapped accounts ****...? There doesn't seem to be a package that caters to people who want sub 100GB data but still want to use the internet without too many hassles....if you do then you have to fork out more money :/ (openweb gold). Killa how much are you pulling pm with your gold account...?

If you're not gonna pull more than 50Gb and want good speeds etc... look at capped products perhaps, Cybersmart, Webafrica...

Thats where I'm coming from already because I need slightly more bandwidth.

No zen there is a package that caters for 100gb+ without much trouble, openweb gold you can pull well over 100gb easily. I have no idea how much i have done because openweb don't have a facility for you to check. This is because they chop and change accounts to suite people, they have 5 different backbones so if one does work you shoot a mail off to ceo@openweb and they will put you on another backbone.

There is no shaping and honestly openweb gold is awesome, costs a bit more but well worth the money. Torrents, nzb's, streaming all work like a dream. Mweb's shaping has become very bad, streaming is a joke as well on mweb.

Can't comment on Mweb's weekday performance, but after hours it's adequate. News server is up about 90% of the time, with full line speed on cached content and 60KB/s on uncached. Torrents are normally about half line speed, but I rarely use torrents for recent stuff.

Streaming can be a bit hit and miss though. Some days it flies, some days it buffers now and then, on occasion it crawls.

Thanx for all the feedback! :)

So to summarize this is what you guys are saying:

> If you are going to download less than 50GB per month rather get a capped account.
> If you are not to worried about torrent and streaming speed but will go above 50GB, use MWEB Uncapped.
> If you have more money than most to spend on internet and want to use torrents and streaming a lot, go with Openweb Gold.

Yeah the problem is that most of us just can't afford OpenWeb. Much more of us can afford MWEB, but then we suffer from crappy speeds...

Basically, if you earn an average income, live in South Africa, and want to download torrents and stream, you are screwed :(

OK what about Pretoria?

Can I have some feedback from MWEB 4MBps Uncapped users that are located in Pretoria?

Thanx :)

MWEB splits their network into two parts. CPT and JHB-DBN. The CPT people get better service so maybe MWEB might be good for you.

I'm on Openweb GOLD though and happier now than what I was on MWEB.
