Afrihost vs Telkom 10mbps or not

Hi

Does anyone know how I can get a legit method for seeing if my line can be upgraded to 10mbps.

I had the 10mbps set up but still got 4mbps afrihost says 10 is available to me... why didnt I get 10 if I was on that package.

I switched back to 4 but really would like to know if my area and line can be upgraded to 10 since telkoms adsl check doesnt work

I hae speaking to those guys, last time I asked if my line supports 10mbps and the consultants answer was "okay I'll upgrade you to that now" and then after asking her again she saiid "sorry, I will have to fnd out for you. Can I call you back?"

Im hoping it was just poor communication and not a reflection on telkoms overall service

Yep, you got through to a drone.

To play it safe and to obtain a more informed reply, send a PM to the official Telkom rep, user TelkomZA, here on MyBB. You will need to supply your telephone number linked to your ADSL service.
 
That was a lot better, a consultant told me I could upgrade to 10.. which is great news

Be VERY careful....

That does not necessarily mean that you will get 10Mbps. You could get anything from 4Mbps up to 10Mbps.

Ask TelkomZA to do a line test on your line to determine the actual speed you will get.
 
Yeah, at the moment Im getting around 2.4 on speedtest.net on my 4mbps account, if I could get 60% speed on my 10mbps account I would be happy.

I get the similar speed on my 4mb line...so frustrating!!! I dont mind paying if i get the appropriate service! Please Help

Both of these issues could be ISP related.

Which ISP are you with?

Will post tonight.. I tried decifering those figues. I noticed that my exchange WBLX:04 (According to the telkom checkadsl page) is about 1.3km from me. When I check broadbandstats for my exchange I get the WBLX:03 as my exchange (also saying the max supported by that exchange is 4096). The Maps section on that site has 2012 as its most recent map sooooo are they accurate and up to date?

Not sure what to make of that, I wish we had proper updated information

If it is 1.3KM and supports 10mbit it should be stable. You could get VDSL even if it supports that too.

Noise Margin: 16.7dB / 13.5dB
