I have a capped bundle with a 2mb line with afrihost and I am having endless problems with my download speeds. I have spoken to afrihost and they are trying to help resolve the issue with my line. So my question is what can I do on my side to fix the problem I am experiencing?

Have you tested accounts from other ISPs?

What are your line stats (attenuation and more importantly SNR)

No I have not tesyed with other ISPs as afrihost is my adsl provider as well. How do I test with other isps? @segg I have no clue what you asking

In your router there should be a section line stats. Here is an example from my router:

Mode: ADSL_G.dmt
Traffic Type: ATM
Status: Up
Link Power State: L0

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 301 270
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 200 105
Output Power (0.1 dBm): 172 121
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 12160 1208

Path 0 Path 1
Downstream Upstream Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps): 4096 512

Sorry to hear you're having troubles with your line :( If your line is with us, I can promise you we'll do our best to have Telkom look into and resolve this for you as soon as possible.

Have we logged a fault for you yet?

@afriguy yes I logged a call and they helped me with the issue. I will see if I get home tonight if it is resolved as they did escalate it with telkom and telkom sent me a msg stating it has been resolved. Will post back here once I check it.

Keep me posted on how things go :)

This might be because of the shaping. I am also having difficulties with my downloads, but the streaming on point. OP: see if you can get the free GB account from Afrihost and check if you stil having problems.

Hi, I tried with someone else's account details and the same issue. It seems like its to do with my exchange that might be congested. Hopefully they can get this issue sorted out as it is very annoying

Our team will do their best to have Telkom look into the congestion for you :)

@AfriGuy I have done numerous speedtest on saix and speedtest.net and I have explained to the guys that keep calling me that the issue is still not resolved. Telkom also called me and said it is resolved but it is not resolved. So can someone get onto this and get the issue sorted out as this has been going on for far too long now.

Sorry to hear this is still an issue. I saw some posts (i assume from your becuase of your handle) on Twitter as well. From our Twitter team it seems like it is a congestion issue :(

@AfriMan I had an open fault with telkom and no one checked if the fault was resolved and they went and closed the fault. Now I have to wait another 96hours again. When will this be resolved as it seems afrihost does not give a *****.(pardon the language) When ever I call they keep shifting the blame to telkom but no one seems to be doing anything to try and resolve the problem. I pay my account promptly and still no service. Come on guys get this solved!

Capped accounts are unshaped :)

Unfortunately Afrihost cannot do anything but wait for Telkom to fix the issue. It ultimately is telkoms problem, but AH will push them for answers for you :)

@Zertop I highly doubt AH will push anything.

They nevet followed up to find out if the fault was resolved, they just allowed the fault to be closed and whenever I tell them they need to resolve the issue they give me the lame excuse that they can only escalate after 96 hours although the fault has been there for two weeks with no fix.

So with all honesty I dont think afrihost cares much about their current customers nor are they willing to make an effort to get the issue resolved.

Oh yes and best of all is support sent me an email stating that they applied for more bandwith and some customers might experience SLIGHT reduction in download speeds, where is slight reduction on a 4mb line running downloads for the past two weeks at 0.04mbps?

HA! So it's not just me.

I am having the EXACT same problems with Afrihost/Telkom as you are. (4Mbps line, Parkview JHB exchange).

Afrihost have given me more than three different excuses over the past week for my problems.
I am busy signing up to a new ISP. Very sad - I was loving Afrihost......
