AfriStay - What a Crap Experience!

This is highly unprofessional and unacceptable and I really expected more from them.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

A while back, I came across AfriStay (could've been the Kulula in-flight magazine) and was considered booking with for Easter 2020. Thanks for let us know. Will stay the hell away from them.

Damn. One guy has a bad experience and the whole world is burning. Double booking will happen. Most of the places I cross checked on Afristay have a personal website, wheretostay page, travel ground etc. Afristay is only one of the platform they use, so the host probably didn't update the system they use for Afristay. I always first try to book with the host directly, specially if they are on multiple platforms. All these different platform, each with their own system, is a distater waiting to happen. So I blame the host 100%. Afristay must then at least suggest an alternative as you have used their platform and they must make the host pay for any extra charges.

I agree with some of your sentiments. But at the time of writing Afristay has a 2 star rating on HelloPeter and 55% gave a 1 star rating. Granted they are probably for other reasons and not for double bookings but it still indicates that AfriStay can do better.

Anyway, I have made alternate arrangements for the first 3 days of my stay and I view the matter as closed. I will however not be using Afristay again.

Hello Peters ratings are skewed. People only go there to complain. You can have 1000 satisfied clients and 5 that complain and you will have a low rating. Glad you found alternative accommodation. It still sucks though. Having to go stay somewhere else for only 3days is disruptive.

try hellopeter, other social media don't think this will get far on mybb..
It may not get as much exposure on MyBB, but I, for one, put more faith in one review here than on 100 on Hellopeter. This is my goto place if I want to know what is really going on.

Customer service in this country is ****ing disgraceful. Businesses act like they are doing you a favour.

If this was the USA, Afristay would credit your entire holiday, pay for a hotel and beg you to not leave a bad review. No questions asked.

Anyone else that have used Afristay and had good experience?
Have used quite a few of these hosting platforms in the past, and often found that the availablity on the main hosting site doesnt correspond with the availability from the actual host destination.
Whether that is the hosts fault or the hosting sites fault , I dont know, but whatever it is, it shows a clear lack of communication between the parties.
Nowadays i simply use those platforms as a search medium and rather contact the host facilites directly, it save me time, disappointment, and headaches such as the OP experienced.

Completely agree. Also just use it to do a search. Most of the time it is anyways cheaper cutting out the middle man.

The host did apologize along with "don't know how this happened", "this is not how we operate", etc, etc. But no discounts or freebies to speak of. :(

So much this. Plus you can get things resolved much quicker, should there be any sort of issue.

With a middle man you're at the mercy of the middle man should something go wrong, which is not a nice experience.

Come to think of it, lots of people use middle man outfits, because they think the middle man will take up the fight for them should something go wrong.

Guess again. Nope, they're interested in one thing only.

Hi Jacada,

Afristay CEO here. I am really sorry to hear about this, and please let me assure you it is NOT our usual level of service.

Your holiday booking has probably passed, but I was only made aware of this thread from a friend today.

I am going to investigate this and make sure we prevent it from happening again, and see what we can do to make amends for the inconvenience caused to you.

I have sent you a DM to get more details.

Kind Regards,
Rupert
