I am looking for a AGP Gfx Card for about R1k max....I know they are almost extinct but replacing mobo, CPU and going PCI Exp is not an option.....Any advice on where to buy and what is the best card you can get for that price. Shot.

actualy sorry for double post but i just saw this : http://www.prophecy.co.za/radeon-hd2600xt-256mb-ddr3-p-29580.html

( GC RADEON HD2600XT 256MB DDR3 AGP - R890.23 )

call them up and find out when they getting stock again. the HD2600XT is far supperior to the x1650 and for the price you will be able to play almost all the games on the market at descent settings.

Ah that looks more like it, seems like a decent buy for that price. I will suggest he get this one.

the card shows out of stock tho. so i suggest you call them and find out when they getting stock before you click the buy button :)

Then not much point getting anything better than a 7950GT AGP so the 3850 AGP would definitely be a waste.

Think for the price the X1650pro will be enough.

Or if u can find a cheap 3650 AGP...probably the best option.

Or a 2nd hand 7600GT?

It seems it is harder to get hold of a AGP card than I first thought....I wanted to know what the Geforce 6600 card is like? I can get one of those from Matrix, just not sure how *** this card actually is. It is half the price of the HD2600XT.

possibly consider going secondhand? 6600gt is ok, I mean....it doesn't compare to the 3850 or 2600xt but what are you trying to do with it anyway? You can't really play games with that system. So if you just want to make things generally faster it doesn't matter which card you get that much. Some of those cards are overkill with your system.

Yeah 2nd hand maybe not a bad idea.....He just wants to be able to play the odd game, obviously not Crisis and most likely none of the latest games...but some older games.

Ok I found out the card that poped in his PC was infact a 6600 - So would like to get something a little better....Any suggestions other than the 2600XT which it seems no one sells.

I am actually not to sure...Something on the lines of a AMD 2000+, 512 RAM etc...nothing fantastic.

Well even a AMD 3200 limits an old Geforce 6800, so a 7600GT would be more than enough, infact even that will be held back by that system so anything more on the graphics side is a waste of money unless the CPU (and RAM) is upgraded too.

The X1650Pro looks like it isn't to far behind the 7600GT so at under R600 it looks like a good choice. Though it will be a very bad gaming system as far as new games are concerned. A 6600 may be to slow as it looks like it's "49% to 58%" slower than the X1650Pro.

On a side note if your friend is interested I may be able to sell him a better CPU, presuming it's a 939 system, I have both a 3200+ and a Dual Core Opteron, both socker 939 CPUs I may be able to part with and also have some spare DDR RAM (ranging from Kinston Value Ram to Kingston Hyper X RAM), I'll sell whatever he might like of those at lower than whatever quoted price he can find as it is second hand but in perfect condition.

Send me a PM message if he's interested as I don't read many threads around anymore here and probably won't see replies.

Ok I have finally got the proper specs for his machine - He is running an AMD Sempron 2600+ 1.6Ghz, 1.5 Gigs RAM.

Would the GC RADEON HD2600XT 256MB DDR3 AGP be a sufficient card for this machine?
