Air Conditioners

We used these guys for 3 home AC units in January 2016 and were very impressed:

The prices there are for back2back installations but they charge R150/m extra beyond the piping that comes with the AC unit (3m). Pay the extra and have the outdoor compressor installed where the vibration it causes will be less bothersome.

Hi, what units did you get from them and are you happy with them?

2x Alliance Atlantic 9000btu's regular and 1x Infinity 12000btu DC Inverter. Dare I say the Infinity DC Inverter rocks...

Also looking to fit about 5 AC units.

Any recommendations on pro companies who supply and install?

Had a Sammy digital inverter installed in the bedroom 3 weeks ago. 12000BTU. Makes our room feel like winter in even the hottest days.

Only issue is a small noise coming from the thing. Samsung offered a complete refund, and the installer was going to replace with a Jet-Air. Found out the Jet-Air only had a 3 year warranty, so sticking with Sammy (10 year on compressor). Samsung are going to provide a complete new unit.

Other 2 are Dunham bush or something, and something else. Been running for about 8 years now without issue. So brand seems much of a muchness?

i live in a flat 6 floors above ground.. no wall space on the balcony wich also housed the master bedroom window.. a split type aircon is not an option.. are there single, i guess all-in-one, aircons available and how reliable and cost effective are they..?

Window mount? Lots of them, and the rather effective.

Thanks for the link. Ended up getting a 24000 Jet-Air inverter unit installed in our bedroom today. I also got 2 other quotes on the same unit from other places and they were in fact the cheapest. I was pretty impressed by the quick response to a request for quote and that they had a cancellation and were able to come out even earlier than anticipated (in this weather the sooner the better). Unfortunately the whole experience was soured somewhat after being berated for lack of *immediate* payment (which it does mention on the quotes in the terms but just something to be aware of). I'll probably end up looking elsewhere next time to be honest.

Hi
Just checking if you’re still happy with the jet -air inverter unit? Would you recommend another make ( quality, noise levels and warranty period - wise? )

I've only had a Samsung before. It seems to have been fine, but does need a service every 6 months or so. It's sometimes a little underpowered for my bedroom, but I don't think it's any less powerful than an equivalent Samsung. No issues the noise except sometimes a "vibration" when "swing" is on.

If the compressor is a reputable (Toshiba, Gree, Carrier, Mitsubishi) make you can buy an e-cheapo branded unit, non-inverter type. The only problem is the cheap aircons generally have an ugly indoor unit (midwall-split type). I've personally owned both Infinity and Jet-Air branded aircons (Toshiba compressors), both bought from a installer who offered 4-year warranties on the compressors provided I have them cleaned/services annually for R250 a service.

As for the best prices - I found that calling refrigeration installers as you see their bakkies generally results in good deals. Buying from retailers like Game typically does not include installation and you end up paying R5000 for a 12000btu aircon + R1500-R2000 back-to-back installation from the installer, whereas if you buy the aircon from the installer, you can get away paying R4500 (or less) with installation.

Game has a 12000btu Defy midwall split with installation for R5000 on promo this week. 2 year guarantee.
Makro has a Samsung 12000btu for R4400 (promo) excl. installation or Goldair 12000btu for R4000 excl. installation.
Can anyone tell me if the Jet Air's condenser is rust free?

Resurrecting an old thread, but looking to have an aircon installed.

Any feedback on those that fitted the Jet Air? Any issues after a few years of use?

Thanks

This thread is probably gonna start getting more active as it warms up now. I just service both my units ahead of summer.
