Probably the only place where he could bring it down safely. The pilot is definitely to be commended.

Those engines act like giant scoops in the water. I wonder how he kept it together? Amazing!

I'm amazed how he did it. Those crash investigation programs show that on water the engines hit the water first and drag the plane causing it to flip tail over nose or just break apart. Maybe he buried the tail into the water and then just pushed the nose down at the last possible moment. I can't wait to read an account on how he did it. Truly amazing, considering this

The FAA does not require commercial pilots to train to ditch, regulating instead the distance a plane can stray from an airfield. Nevertheless, all commercial aircraft are equipped with flotation devices in case of water landings...

I am very curious of how it landed, speed etc keeping in mind that too fast and wings etc will be ripped off. Based on vids of the plane, already submerged, it seems 100% intact.

btw, the reason for the crash was birds flew in & took out both engines.. but apparently the pilot was flying lower than he should so they investigating that too.
 
Amazing yeah.. ex fighter pilot managed to bring it down safely. Few injuries but no deaths. Kept his nerve .. definitely a hero that pilot.
 
Wow - absolutely amazing feat by the pilot! A true hero!!! Glad to hear all the passengers and crew are safe - and it looks like there are very few injuries, if any..

Reminds me of that British pilot that managed to crash land a plane at Heathrow a few months back

It actually hit the bridge, then the river. The saddest part about that one was that most people survived the crash, but froze to death while waiting to be rescued. There was a bystander who noticed a woman (iirc) in the water who was not strong enough to stay afloat any more. So he jumped in and held her up until she was pulled out. Sadly he disappeared soon after - real hero.

This is purely speculation, but I think Airbus aircraft are just built much stronger than the other major brands. I've been into passenger plane crashes since the Helderberg, and the the Airbus planes always seem to maintain structural integrity better.

Does anybody have a link to a video of the landing of this plane? There is a lot of videos of the rescue, but I would like to see the landing.
