Hi Guys ...
Is summer, its boiling ... i need an aircon in my car ...
Any recommended installers? I rem seeing a board some time back for R2000 for aircon for tazz, no power loss etc ... anyone got any idea?
Thanks
No power loss?
As far as I can tell, that's a physical impossibility...
Its a mini air-con that they install in cars like my wifes ATOS. Has enough BTU for her car. My brother in law actually installed two of them in his old cars and was really impressed - he lives in Pofadder and really battle tests aircons.

No, he is talking about these: http://www.coolacar.co.za/
That is evaporation cooling not a real air conditioner. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evaporative_cooler
If you are talking about the standard ATOS air conditioner it's still just a normal air conditioner but with a significantly lower BTU rating, but if you know of something else, please post here I'd like to explore it for interest sake.
I can't imagine a car without aircon.

Only R2000. But according to the site, it only cools between 7-12 degrees. So, if like yesterday, it is 37, it will only get you down to around 30 then?![]()
thats alot better than winding down your windows and getting blasted with hot air, or having the fan blow warm air
I have to concur...If it were any good, everyone would have one and not bother with the full AC.You guys do realize what you pay R2000 for right?
He takes a water bottle, attaches a hose to it with a pump, that then goes to a radiator that allows water to escape from it or at best some kind of spray nozzle. The water moves over the radiator and it "cools" the air.
7 degrees is highly optimistic IMHO.
Reason: He installs the water bottle in a warm engine bay, which will help the water evaporate more quickly but most of the heat is from the engine bay and very little ambient heat is absorbed.
Total cost to him is maximum around R400 looking at the quality of equipment he uses from his pictures. He uses a generic pick 'n pay milk jug to store the water in FFS.
Cheapest option that is worth it IMHO is to go to a scrapyard and get the complete air conditioner from a scrapped vehicle and fit that, it's still a lot of work to fit tho.
I would say nothing less than R6k. Recently got a Corsa Lite hand me down for my wife (note Lite, not Lite+) and it is like driving a microwave oven. The Bosch service center said it would be about R8k to install A/C for it.
