Aircon insights

Yep. Is it a Rolls Royce of air-conditioner like Daikin.. no. But it will make the room just as cool or warm and it will last you many many years with an adequate warranty. Nothing to worry about.

AC Direct don't sell any garbage brands like hifi corp, Marko etc. do. All solid enough.

I had this same airconditioner installed at my home a few months ago. So far I am impressed. It is effective at cooling a room of about 20sqm which has large windows and receives a lot of afternoon sun. The outdoor compressor is much quieter than my older Samsung units. As I live at the coast I had the outdoor unit rustproofed before installation. As it is still early days, I cant’t comment on long-term reliability.

GMC have a full 2 year warranty. Their customer feedback is excellent. That's why I chose them.....plus I've got WIFI control on this little Aircon of mine. Very handy and I don't need to use the remote.

So far I ❤️ this little thing.
I have a little dehumidifier by them and it is great. I wanted their aircons but they aren't available easily, where did you find them?

my lounge is around 36sqm and i have a smaller joining entrance thats around 25sqm

a 18k might be too small i guess

Takealot sell them.
Neither GMC nor takealot list split units with prices, only portable which is pretty useless for most people's use cases like how aircoolers don't work in humid environments.

Mine is also about the same, with a 25 sqm bar that's adjacent. And a passage that leads to the bedrooms. 18k BTU is too small, should have went with 24k minimum.

Also make sure you do the other important stuff first, like ceiling insulation. Or it's just going to run continously without getting to the set temp...

I went with the 24000 for the main area, it's 38 squares and I think I overspecced a little. I could leave the bedroom doors open and cool the entire flat though with it probably, also considering that my insulation is pretty good. Time will tell.

The installers have all the ACs running now in the place to test and it's nice and chilly in there.

And? Does it actually work?
Yes it does. Important to keep the outlet pipe as short as possible to minimise heat build up in the room.

Great because you don't have to knock a hole in the wall to install it like split or permanent air conditioners. And you can move it around on it's wheels.

Especially important if you're renting and are not allowed to excavate holes in walls etc.
