Aircon recommendations

All aircons gets serviced 1x per year.
The electrician says it's the solar/inverter that caused them to break. I dont understand how that's even possible.
My Samsun inverter AC never skipped a bet on the inverter/solar - I would think the inverter AC would be better on an inverter power setup due to the soft start feature. No KLUNK as the compressor turns on and off

This is why the rest of the country is experiencing load shedding. Shame on you
This is untrue. We have solar. We use less than R100 worth of eksdom units per month.

Solar is bad, have you felt how hot those panels get in the sun? It's people like you that add to the global warming. Shame on you

I bought the Midea 24000BTU Wifi aircon in November 2023. It is awesome. It even shows the outside and inside temps. Before I leave the office I switch it on and when I arrive home the house is cooled down.

More detail? From where, price, experience?
LG's ACDirect, never had any issues other than the installer doing a **** job, the 18K leaked eventually got another guy out and he sorted it and its going strong ever since.

24K is only being installed next week, so will let you know after a few weeks. This particular unit will be pushed hard, very hard.

I went to Hirsch in December to get quotes. Below are the quotes I received. Not sure if these quotes are typical standard prices, or if I should look elsewhere, like AC Direct or other places?

Hirsch didn't have any stock in December due to the Transnet issue at the habour and said I should follow up end January / mid Feburary.

I currently have a 12000 BTU Bravia Air AC in the lounge. Had it for 11 years, no issues. It packed up 2 years ago, the roller fan broke and they couldn't find a replacement fan roller. Hirsch gonna charge R750 to remove the old unit.

Isolator Cost is for electrician to connect directly to the DB board.

Thinking of going witht he Carrier 18000 BTU for the lounge. Hirsch highly recommended Carrier. Anyone had any experience with Carrier AC's? Any good? Or avoid?

It's like a R800 difference, why skimp on so little when you're already spending so much.

I ended up going with a Samsung AR4500 18,000 BTU with extended warranty which came to around R17k including installation from AC Direct...

Hirsch still has no stock...

Carrier is good, although the indoor unit of the one Hirsch has looks abit cheap imo, LG and Samsung looks/feels much better.

I'd suggest looking at other suppliers/installers, if you are fitting a new unit in the same place as the old, I would not expect to pay for removal, infact...I would think a discount on the installation is fair, since most of the 'hard' work is already done.

In terms of pricing, 18k btu Alliance unit (black mirror) is about R17k installed to the DB, the Samsung AR4500 is similar in price

Also wondering the reliability of Alliance Inverter Units...

Had ordered 2 Jet Air Inverter units (have one for over 3 years now and it never skipped a beat, haven't serviced either) , but there is no stock anywhere, so my installer advised that he can do Alliance Inverters instead.

I see they have a decent warranty - so may go ahead and pull the trigger.. opinions ?
How are these Alliance AC going... The installer I have is also trying to sell me these and I am not convinced yet.

I contacted Hirsch in February to find out if they had stock and they finally received their new stock.

When I went to Hirsch in December, they quoted me on a Carrier 18000 BTU - R18700. But new quote for February was R15000.

Went to Hirsch to pay on Friday (23-Feb), unit was installed on Wednesday (28 Feb)

Got the Carrier 18000 BTU installed. All systems working well. No issues so far. Happy with the unit.

Did you buy the non inverter one? There is a price difference between the two.

whats the going rate for installation and does that rate include everything needed except the unit
I tried bark and one installer called me and said they are going for R2-R2.5k depending if you have installation kit or not.

Definitely made sure and asked for the inverter one. Asked the installers on the day as well, and they confirmed it is an inverter one too.

Hirsch's charged me R2500 for installation of the new unit. Then R1900 for the isolator installation and R750 for removal of the old unit. Was a bit pricy and was going to look around for cheaper prices, but I've dealt with Hirsch's on many occasions and have had good service from them. Have gotten most of my large appliances from them and haven't had any major issues with any of them in the past.
