Hi Guys,

I'm considering getting a Giulietta.

My only worry is that its an Alfa which is known for reliability issues, so I was hopping you guys can give me some of your experiences.

Also the warranty and maintenance plan is kinda confusing. From what I understand is that its 3 years 100 000km but it can be extended for another 2 years, is that correct?

Also how does the alfa warranty and maintenance plan work?
 
You are correct the standard maintenance plan that will come with your car covers a period of 3 years or 100 000km whichever comes first, Alfa Romeo's service intervals are 30 000km or 2 years whichever comes first. The maintenance plan can be extended by 2 years / 20 000km. So if you don't do 30 000km a year it makes a bit of sense to extend the maintenance plan by the 2 years.

The maintenance plan covers all service items excluding oil/fuel and window glass replacement/repair.
 
Thanks. And how does the warranty work and what does it cover?

So if there is a rattle or the stop start doesn't work will this be covered by the maintenance plan

The Alfa is covered by a FULL MAINTENANCE plan, so EVERYTHING is covered, from servicing the car to sorting out any hassles that might crop up. They will even replace your battery if it packs up in that period.

The Giulietta is a magnificent car, and it has unfortunately picked up its reputation, similar to the ones that French cars have, for all the wrong reasons. The old Alfas were enthusiasts cars, and yes, we all had to work at keeping them running all the time. The new Alfas, however, are thoroughly modern and well put together cars, and they should give you several hundred thousand km of happy motoring. The biggest negative, however, is the resale value in SA is shocking, and that is simply because it is "perceived" to be an unreliable car, which is a great pity.
 
Just remember the high insurance cost also :)

Someone posted they pay around R2000 per month for there guilietta.

Besides reliability issues you also have to contend with very very low trade in values once you decide to get another car.Think it through carefully.I know I wouldn't take the chance.Waste of money IMO.

I'm looking at a used car that I would like to keep for 4-5 years so I am trying to take advantage of the bad resale value now (being used) and hey in 5 years no car really holds its value

Tell that to my brother after he got nailed over R100k for repairs on his 147 selespeed.Luckily it was on motorplan so he didn't have to pay,but once the plan expired(he does high mileage so hit 100 000k's in 1 1/2 years) he sold it immediately because it was too risky to keep,he lost over 60% of the value of the car even though it was in mint condition.That also was on trade in,to sell outright he would have got peanuts.

Makes sense,although the sticking point would be cost of repairs especially since it isn't a common car so after market/second hand/OEM parts wont be easy to come by meaning you'd have to buy brand new from the stealers and that could cost you dearly!;)
 
Yes that's the issue as well so thats why I want to make double sure around the maintenance plan

Selespeeds were notorious for giving MAJOR hassles, anyone who knew anything about Alfa's stayed away from them. That being said the new Alfa Romeos are far better than they were back in the day with no major issues apart from resale value. I never let resale value determine my choice in buying a car.
 
So I don't see anyone complaining about the giulietta specifically which seems promising I guess...

Once again - did you not understand my reply??

The car will not cost you a cent apart from tyres and petrol for the first 3 years/100 000 km.

I meant after the 3 years 100 000km. Looking at the 2013 version so after that with the extended warranty and maintenance plan...

OK - a 2013 model will expire wrt maintenance in 2016. After that you are on your own, unless you buy an extension, but you won't get that ex factory.
