'No God' slogans for city's buses

Bendy-buses with the slogan "There's probably no God" could soon be running on the streets of London.

The atheist posters are the idea of the British Humanist Association (BHA) and have been supported by prominent atheist Professor Richard Dawkins.

The BHA planned only to raise £5,500, which was to be matched by Professor Dawkins, but it has now raised more than £32,000 of its own accord.

You can donate here: http://www.justgiving.com/atheistbus - they've raised £35000 since this morning already! c'mon - it's a good cause!

Waste of money. Why do they keep telling the religionists they should not try and proselytize... and then they do this?

Why not rather use the money for charity or something beneficial?... where the religionists are currently putting them to shame.

Where's the hypocrisy? It's not like both groups are proselytizing lies. ;)

Um, the hypocrisy would be in the eyes of the religionists. They were told not to do this. Now the people who told them not to do this are doing exactly what they were not supposed to do. Therefore they would call it hypocrisy. And they would lose [more] respect for these people.

So I ask... why is the money not rather used for some beneficial purpose instead of generating controversy and trying to convince people who do not want to be convinced?

I agree, the religionists/creationists would cry hypocrisy and it would be hypocritical in their eyes. But don't forget, they truly believe that what they propagate is the truth, regardless of what science knows about the universe. That is the ultimate hypocrisy. ;)

I still think the money could be better used. This smacks of confrontation. Typical of Dawkins. He would have made a great Sawdust Trail Evangelist in another universe. hehe.

It's really about countering the religious propaganda out there,

The atheist bus campaign aims to change this. In addition to the slogan, the adverts will feature the URLs of secular, humanist and atheist websites, so that readers can find out more about atheism as a positive and liberating alternative to religion. We've also set up an interactive campaign website and Facebook group, so that questions raised by the adverts can be publicly debated.

won't work though religious debates always turn out in to a flame debate.

This is unfortunately true. Largely because of the embarrassing ignorance and knee-jerk mentality of the religionists. If people really claimed to have faith, they would not be scared of any other position, and would not mind informing themselves of other people's positions... at least then they might be able to carry on a more meaningful debate.

But I don't think the atheistic crowd should play on this or antagonise them. Patiently inform and teach the truth. Be consistent and thorough.

Let's just get on with the business of making this world a better place for all, especially those who have not.

LOL!!

Don't be jealous now.... :p

This debate has been going on for ages, facts + more fiction swings both ways..

Which ever you believe is YOUR OWN decision, but I think the atheists should rather use that "patients" your talking about when they are trying to understand how they came from a rock! :D

WTH are you talking about? you post makes no sense at all

who said anything about "jealousy" or "patients"? What is your point?

Sometimes a sign on a bus is all a person needs to go figure the rest out for himself.

I suppose...

This is a nonsense.

Atheists do not believe in God. Religious people do. But neither can prove the existence, or lack thereof, beyond all doubt.

I can understand religious people wanting to spread the word. They get that calling from God.

What I can't understand is atheist needing to spread their word. Where does that come from? I can picture a couple of people in a pub having this as a debate but why would you ever want to stand on a soap box about it? Or are we always going to have aholes?
