Softpedia reports that an Ubi rep (speaking with PC Gamer) has confirmed Splinter Cell: Conviction, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic, and the recently announced Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to employ the DRM tools. The publisher also specifically pointed out that different titles handle the loss of data differently -- for instance, AC2 depends on checkpoints and The Settlers 7 saves wherever you last were -- though PC Gamer supposedly pressed for an answer to the question on all our minds: Will every PC game from Ubisoft in the future have this DRM?

Now I have a list of games I won't be buying, well done ubi, reducing sales and increasing piracy, that takes a special kind of stupid

Doesn't really phase me cos they can't really do much wrt DRM on the 360. I imagine that the PC folks would be a bit pissed though.

For those who don't know, when you get capped it means you can't play your game further until the next month. Or if telkom screws up and your connection drops your game quits. Or if you take your laptop with you anywhere without an internet connection you can't play at all.

Calhouns Theory of DRM Dynamics (AKA The "they always read it wrong hypothesis") : The Rate of piracy is not inversely proportional to the level of Draconian DRM of a piece of software

Well just stay legal and there is nothing to be concerned about. Those that Pirate the games just because there are some sort of "control" would have pirated it anyway! Thank goodness there will now be some checks and balances!

Some cheapskates, wants everything for free!

Hate to say it but any game that isn't Starcraft 2 quality and has DRM is now going to be pirated by me. I can't believe that the pirates are going to be higher quality than the legit copies. I hate goddamn DRM

I hope your being sarcastic, I see this DRM causing major issues in backend countries like ours. And to the guys that say the console market isn't effected, how about the PSN issue on the weekend?

I'll vote with my wallet but I can see quite a few games to give a miss or even disregard because of this.

Oh please.... Just remember, we are the minority here. You really think they would care how we feel about it? Our money is just donut cash to them. So people that won't buy it because of this or people that pirate it, should go buy an xbox360. It's because of you pirates that this is happening. Is this an MMO? No, I thought not. How often is your adsl line going to drop while playing this anyway? :wtf: I cant believe people complain about this in our age.

All Hype, No, not sarcastic. Who cares about a third world wannabe country anyway?

The PSN had nothing to do with DRM. (Generalize and guess some much?) It was a faulty clock chip that had the wrong date on the "29th* of Feb. aLL RESOLVED IN TIME ON THE 2ND OF fEB.

It's because of people that don't complain that they do this, remember you cant resell your games because it is locked to your ubi account, still wondering why we complain? Or are you just going to quietly take it until they sell us games with expiry dates?
Look at EA, 2 years ago when they had restrictive DRM on spore, warhead etc everyone complained, now they have removed that and have project 10 dollar instead, which is absolutely ingenious

Actually no I did'nt guess at all. While your right not strictly to do with DRM from what I read and even what you say, I don't see whay the incorrect date should interfere with a game being played on a console. My point was that factors besides the game itself and the neccesary hardware , be it DRM or others, are affecting the ability to play the game and this is becoming a more prevalent trend.

Care or not makes no difference to me as a consumer I won't bother purchasing their product. That is the best recourse that a consumer can do to make a point known. It is most annoying when having purchased a game, to have to go and get a crack to actually play it, examples happened to me are COD2 and PoP. If I'm playing an MMO , part of the whole mentality is the net connectivity so it's not a factor but a single player game that has no need to be on the net besides checks for updates etc? You think people are going to be pleased when they lose save games or gameplay? Go read the EVE forums sometimes and that is from a community that expects network issues.

When you are the minority, this does not apply. Blizzard wont give us WoW servers. Why? Well the entertainment world can turn without our small little Country. Like I said, donut money...

Last night I was at CNA in the waterfront and I was looking at AC2's box, the CNA guy came over to me and WARNED me about how I must always have my internet connection on when playing that game (referering to AC2) and I was yeah, I know, I was just looking, no way I'm buying it.

He says he agrees with me - he wouldn't either.

Everyone should read this article on piracy:

Gaming is a privelage, not a right.

One of the most oft-repeated statements you'll see in the piracy debate goes something like this: "These companies need to stop using old business models and adapt". This statement and variations of it are mindlessly parroted over and over again by those who want to imply that piracy is purely the fault of the "greedy corporations", and thus any problems stemming from it are solely their responsibility to resolve. Whenever I read this sort of thing, I remember the old adage: Be careful what you wish for, because it just might come true. Indeed what these people are wishing for is already coming true - companies big and small are adapting and changing their business models, in large part due to piracy, and have been for quite a while. Unfortunately however, it's not quite the way in which the armchair experts had hoped.

What s*** is that! I pay for a game, I have a right to enjoy the game and not be screwed by DRM when trying to play a game. This is not a privelage, this is my right as a consumer. Rather support the indie gamers than big studios exploiting the market. A while back there was quite a bit of discussion about the publishing houses buying up the development studios, how it would affect pricing eventually. Well, I think thats becoming more of a problem than piracy to the consumer.
