All things Shelly

If I want to control my garage door motors with a Shelly 1, does anyone have any suggestions on what's available locally to monitor whether the door is open or closed? I've got two old garage door openers which use magnetic limit switches - so I'll need to add something to check the status of the doors?

Shelly has a door sensor module to track open/close

Please do share details.

I am interested in automating my garage doors.

You can do this with a Shelly 1.

You wire the Shelly 1 into the COM of the garage door, then run a Reed switch for the door. A Reed switch is just one of those magnetic security sensors that you put on doors and windows. This will give you an indicator in the Shelly app to let you know if the door is open or closed.

Here's one article as guideline in using a Shelly 1 for your garage door:

There's many other similar articles out there, so google if you want another one.

Thank you - This is exactly what I was after! While the wireless solutions are cool, they seem overly expensive. Using a normal door/window sensor for an alarm system is perfect!

Just one note about this article: if your garage opener uses 12V instead of 24V in the article, you need to change one jumper on the Shelly to switch the power to 12V. Refer to wiring diagrams that are freely available on the internet. Refer to the image close to the top of this page:

Installed by first shelly 1 today behind a light switch. Using the shelly cloud app and scheduled it to switch on / off at set times, but had loadshedding tonight. The light didn't switch on when loadshedding ended. Is there a way to solve in app or do I need to need to brute force it by scheduling a bunch of triggers to switch on triggers?

Settings, Power On Default. You can force the Shelly On or Off when the power comes back. The Restore last mode option isn't working for me. If that's not what you want, you'll have to add more On events via the scheduler.

Really liking the Shelly 1PM plus, first time using it. I added a switch, indicator LED and shelly to my irrigation pump.

I want to switch the pump on before opening irrigation valves, but then also easily be able to switch it on manually too.

Where did you buy these connectors?

Thanks.

I’ve been on the lookout for those locally since seeing them used in a couple of YouTube tutorials.
They are game changers. My uncle has a setup with a Shelly 1 that controls 4 fans so we used a connector per wire, and that allowed us to connect all 4 220V fans to the Shelly.

What's happening with Shelly locally?

It seems most of their stuff is not on Takealot anymore. Some rare online stores have but ETAs are like 3-4 weeks. The Shelly1 is almost impossible to find. Which is a pity because its so good.

I'm bringing the rest i need in from Amazon now.

If I remember on the Shelly 1, they discontinued it and replaced with a Shelly Plus 1 … which did the same, but much more (scripting etc).

The issue is that the price rose significantly and people that used them just for on/off didn’t want to pay the extra cost for nothing.

They then launched (or about to?) a low cost version for lighting to get back to a similar price

ah ok interesting.

I've found some Shelly plus 1's on Amazon, just gonna buy those and send them via my forwarder.
