All things Shelly

For what it’s worth, I got two Duos recently. They’re pretty good. Brightness is good and the warm end of the colour is properly warm. I put them in a ceiling fitting for now, which means the wall switch becomes a do-not-touch which sucks.

That's good to know. When I bought my house 4 years ago every room had dimmers with old, first generation dimmable but generally dim LED bulbs, way too close to the yellow side of warm white. That combined with the fact that the house was painted a yellowish colour inside with knotty-pine ceilings made me gag at night when I turned on the lights.

So got rid of all the dimmers, replaced all the LEDs and painted the walls more neutral colours. Oh and painted the pine ceiling white too.

But now... I might consider a couple of dimmers again. But I do need to pull down neutrals to lightboxes -- the lights where switches need to stay on permanently just confuse people.

I'm about to order 15 Shelly Dimmers. I see you get a Shelly Dimmer and then also a Shelly Dimmer 2. Shelly Dimmer 2 is sold on the Europe store, and it seems like the big difference is that it works without a neutral line where the one in America needs a neutral line. I'm not an electrician. Can anyone please confirm which I should get as I don't want to order something that is not going to work. Another question is if these units work fine with the Legrand dimmable switches? Attached is a picture of the switches I have. Thank you for all the great information on this feed.

The Dimmer2 will be the only option now. I works with or without Neutral where previously you had a separate Dimmer SL (seems gone now) for the single line option. I think they said that everyone who ordered old Dimmers will get the new ones. So I’d say just go for the new one.

As for those switches, I don‘t know. The best is just a simple bell-press switch - you can press and release to turn on or off and hold to dim up or down. If those switches came with a dimmer of their own you need to remove the dimmer module and only keep the mechanical switches. The button/switch logic happens in the Shelly dimmer which is always on (less than 1W)

Thanks for the valuable feedback. Yes, the dimmer switch works the same as a simple bell switch. Quick press to turn / off, then press and hold to dim up / down. So then it should work fine. Then I will go ahead and order. Thanks for the help.

The shelly.cloud site appears to ship globally, do they ship to SA or any reasons why one shouldn't buy direct from them?

Have had a couple of Shelly 1's in the cupboard for over a year... finally powered one on now.
I actually like their firmware, and quick to get on HA with it's built in MQTT.

Yes, its integration with Home Assistant is effortless. And they are the only company that currently stock a smart dimmer that can work with an existing dumb dimmer switch. Sonoff have a dimmer, but its has some flaws and you cant install it with an existing switch. This makes Shelly pretty neat in my opinion. Sonoff do however have the RF to WIFI bridge which is a cool product that I think Shelly must look into.

If @ShellySA have your requested product in-stock then it is better to order directly from them. The prices work out more if you buy from overseas as shipping and import costs adds up and you can get your product much quicker when buying from @ShellySA. Just contact them directly, they respond quickly and service is great. I ordered today and my product is already on its way. You can email them on [email protected]

If anybody needs a Shelly, I can highly recommend @ShellySA. Received my products today. Quick delivery and great service. Thank you

Hey yes, I also wanted some of those. Maybe there was some confusion between the enclosure type and the new Button1.

@Remmert looks like your weekend is sorted.
What do you mean by confusing, seemed simple to me.

He is going to spend more than a weekend installing those. He as almost double what I ordered and it took me multiple weekends without having to run neutrals.

Almost done now, just need to do the pool pump and pool light now.
