All things Shelly

I see Shelly have finally released their Circuit Breakers as well, and they're not horribly horribly priced either.

Contemplating whether its a worthwhile investment or not at this point.

Sorry, forgot to post a link... but yeah those.

Obviously there could be legal issues with using them, so I'm just contemplating it atm.
 
How reliable is the Shelly PM mini gen3? I want to install one of them on my heat pump to measure electricity consumption.
Reason I ask, because it's connected in series with the appliance, if the Shelly fails, the heat pump will stop working and as is my luck, this will happen while I'm not at home for a week and then I have to deal with the fallout.

My thinking was actually to install the Shelly at the heat pumps change over switch, but only on the heat pump side, so if the Shelly fails, then the normal geyser element will still work if flipping the change over switch. I never use the electric element anymore since I installed a heat pump, so it won't bother me if there is no energy monitoring on the element.
I must still check if there will be space in the change over switch enclosure for the Shelly.

I can’t speak for the gen 3 - but I suspect they’d be more robust than the gen 1 that I’ve had for 5 or 6 years.

Aside from the Shelly 2.5 which died after 4 years, the others are still running (1 / 1PM / Dimmer 2)

Why not use a Shelly EM and then it uses the clamp to monitor usage. This way if the shelly fails your heat pump wont be affected.
I got my uncle a Shelly EM with two clamps, one for his borehole pump and the other for his water tank pump. He wanted to have a record of when they came on and off, but he also can see the power usage of either.
 
Awaiting delivery of my Shelly Presence Gen4. Just installed the Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 dongle into my Home Assistant. All this so that I do not have to turn lights on or off with my voice. Needed the Zigbee integration for the light sensor capabilities of the Presence Gen4.
The plan is for it to do the following:
a) is there someone in the lounge or kitchen
b) is the light level below X amount
c) if conditions A & B are met then turn on the lounge lights if someone is in the lounge or turn on kitchen lights if someone is in the kitchen. And turn off said lights the moment someone leaves the room.
 
Doing the same , probably not as accurate using just the PIRs of the paradox alarm of which we have a PIR in each room / area.

Only difference, is light only turns off after 3 minutes if PIR is not triggered during the defined hours. Of course only used for common areas to give dim lighting at night etc. Otherwise, those lights are full bright.

I use a Tapo motion sensor for the hallway and bathroom, and lights stay on for 3 min. So we walk out the bedroom at night and the light turns on (but is set to 50%) and then the bathroom light turns on as you walk in.
