So I'm not sure if this is an obvious/stupid question which is why I cannot find a concrete answer but is the Rated Output power of an inverter inclusive charging a battery?

So in otherwords, if I have a 5kw inverter and I'm charging the batteries (using AC) at 4.8kw does that mean my load capacity is still 5kw or will any load above +- 0.2kw trip the inverter?

If it’s during loadshedding then your inverter will trip.
If Eskom is available then the inverter will I use Eskom to supplement

No, the inverter will not trip, all that it will do is reduce amps used to charge the batteries as load increases.
 
Sorry, should've clarified I mean charging the batteries using AC and not PV.

Effectively what I want to know is can I charge batteries (with AC/Eskom) at 4.8kw and a load at 5.0kw (also using AC/Eskom) at the same time.

Theoretically its night, I'm powering a load using batteries at 5kw, SOC goes down to 50% which then causes AC to charge the batteries back up to 80% (say at 4.8kw). While it's charging the batteries can't obviously power the 5kw load so AC/Eskom would need to do that as well. So effectively +- 9.8kw running through the inverter?

Yes, I believe it will pull the excess from the grid to supply the load. The 5KW has 48A AC passthrough which is about 11KW.

If grid goes down that 5KW load will shift to the batteries and it may then trip (assuming 4.8KW is your discharge too).
 
Just on the AC. I ran my bedroom unit (12000btu inverter aircon) for the night at 21° and still ended up with 33% SOC left on the batteries. Screenshot_20231004_072424_Chrome.jpg

That's good to hear. I do not use a lot of electricity at the moment (except the normal stuff), but I might as well use it now that I have solar. Looking forward to seeing how it performs when I get the ACs
 
Noticing the DC Temp on mine is starting to spike higher than normal - usually hovers around 60 degrees.

Hit 80 degrees other day - I know there was a lot of talk about guys installing fans with temperature sensors - @Willie Trombone I seem to remember you had done it?

Those that have, are you noticing a difference in controlling the temperature?
 
Cool. I have been doing some reading and they say some inverter type aircons can idle at 500W when it has reached its temperature.

I do not remember the particular units per se, but I would assume the new aircons should be more efficient. I'm interested in Daikin. I will start with bedroom ones 2x 12000BTU for my kids' bedrooms and 1x 18000BTU for the master.

I'll do lounge later in the future. 24000BTU. The summers and winters are harsh where I live.

Do yourself a favour and look at Daikin's multisplits for your bedrooms. They are super efficient and you could run 12000*2 + 18000 nicely with it. Then later get a separate unit for the lounge.

I have looked at multisplits. The issue I have is if the outdoor unit breaks (if they ever break), then I do not have any aircon.

Those units are made to "live" outside. If you do not live next to the ocean they will last many years. Mine is almost 20 years old and still going fine.

Is there anyone who runs multiple aircons (for heating or cooling) at the same time for a few hours? What is the consumption like?
900w for a smaller room 9000 btu non inverter type. Inverter type is better overall. 3kw for inverter type 36000 btu.
 
have a look on the rating plate .aircons use different gasses some are R134 some are R22 and still others use blended gasses ,the newer gasses run at a higher pressure ,cool quicker and run at a lower amp .on the rating plate it may give LRC ,that will be start up current the other rating will be running current at a full charge weight ,if too high your aircon tech can change your current consumption by changing the fill ,some charge by current some by weight .
All the things they omit on the sales material. Just like digital cameras.
