All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

I have been looking at the SA Pi solution a bit. I have the old solarman dongle. Solarman gives me good data albeit a bit slow to update.
How much better will SA be? Do I need to run it on a Pi or can I use a NUC like mentioned above? There does not seem to be stock of Pi's anywhere.

Has to be run on a Pi... They don't have a non-Pi version out

SA will be data within seconds so if you have automations you can react quicker. You are also able to write changes to the inverter quicker / easier than via Solarman. Data is also locally stored vs on a server somewhere

Do you know whether Solar Assistance can write back to the Deye 12k 3 Phase inverter?

According to the spec sheet SolarMan is 'read-only' for this model.

The app is read-only by default. You should be able to write to the logger...

Looks to be read only... Perhaps ping them and enquire when / if they think they will have write functionality. IIRC the write functionality for the 5 and 8kw only came online August of last year

Looks like the newer 3 phase models are also similar to the newer 5 kW models. So there no separate RS485 and CAN ports, just a single BMS port. So you'll also need an RJ45 splitter...

As it should be, both are bus topologies after all.

I really would like to not depend on the Deye cloud for monitoring purposes so I'll be going the SolarAssistant route (will have to source a LAN splitter of course).

I will be repurposing the RPi 4 that was running HomeAssistant since I moved the HomeAssistant instance to a VM running on a Synology DS220+.

As an aside, I'm quite chuffed that I'm able to use the Synology for more than the NAS functions - I've got Plex running; Unifi Controller in a Docker instance (my UCK Cloudkey expired ignominiously a couple of months back); Surveillance Station (24/7 recording from IP Camera); and now, HomeAssistant as well.

I had a chat with the Freedom Won sales guy yesterday. I have an appointment with their support team in the next day or so for a firmware check.

I had no idea but the BMS firmware for the Freedom won gets configured for different Inverters as per the install manual. Does this happen with other batteries BMS? I.e. Different firmware config for Sunsynk vs Axpert King etc.

Apparently the FW Lite has some fancy American BMS. Anyone know which one it is?
The Homelite FW batteries make use an Orion BMS, pretty much the best there is.

The Etower on the other hand makes use of the same Chinese BMS that is causing so many issues for some Hubble users.

This splitter should work - clearly states that it splits/shares 1 ethernet port into 2 sockets which is precisely what is required.

That is the splitter recommended by Solar Assistant and the same one I bought from my local electronics shop. I unplugged the battery BMS cable from the inverter's 2 in 1 port and plugged a normal ethernet cable into the inverter's 2 in 1 port. Then I plugged the other end of the ethernet cable into the splitter. Currently I only have my BMS cable plugged into the one port of the splitter. Still waiting on my Orange PI to arrive and then I will be plugging that into the other port of the splitter.

It's the same one recommended by Solar Assistant so it should be cool...
 
I see it uses the Orion Jr 2 if my Google Fu is good. I don't suppose you know the read-only password, assuming it's some sort of default password for all their batteries?
Unfortunately not. On most chines BMS'es the default password is 123456. Maybe try your luck
 
I jimmy rigged the two fans to balance on top of the inverter to test efficiency today. I'm still waiting for my 3D printed parts.

It was working hard with the heat sink at around 60 degrees C before I connected and it's now down to 42. I have it turning on at 45 and off at 42 now. Incredible actually.

Yeah, really need to get this going - what sort of power source adapter runs those fans - I have so many old power plugs lying around, wonder if I can use one of them.

Inverter hit over 70 degrees yesterday, need to get some sort of cooling on it asap

Word of warning - the quality of these particular units isn't great.

Going to have to go back to get one that works properly (will take my cable tester with me this time).

On the unit I bought, the right port was fine, but the left wasn't - tester showed that the pins were misaligned - instead of 1:1, 2:2, etc I am getting 1:2, 2:3, etc

:eek: Wow, that's hot. Where is your inverter installed?

Looking at my stats doesn't look like mine has got hotter than 55.

Garage, West facing - need to get something sorted.

Battery is never more than 30 degrees
