All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

need some guidence here. After loadshedding the grid came back and my system tripped, I thought it was due to high loads and it came back on a few minutes later. Just checked again and grid is still down (am th eonly one in my street). Checked the grid and see there was power sent to the grid when the grid came back online (i dont feed back in) any reason or things to check? checked the error log and shows an F18, quick search doesnt really give me much feedbackView attachment 1475945
AC overcurrent, so check your non-essential loads for what started up when the grid came back. Usually happens when you have a crap load of stuff on the non-essentials, especially inductive loads like pool pumps and old refrigerators.

Along with what @RonSwanson said about non-essentials, if your grid was struggling and running at a lower voltage while coming back, the current would increase ie power=volts x amps
2300w=230v x 10a
2300w=200v x 11.1a

So if you have tons of stuff trying turn on and adding additional say 10% on top of that to compensate for lower voltage, it gets easier for overcurrent conditions

True, that's why it is good to set the delay timer, I have both of mine on the max of 600s (10 minutes).
 
Quick one. Heard over the weekend that SunSync is just imported by one distributor and they get very shirty when someone else supplies.

Do you knowledgeable people in the forum know is that is true? And given stock issues, price rises.etc. isn't it time more "stockists" came online?
Also if you do know is it just SunSync, or also true of Deye and Inge?
 
That's the one.
If you can, next time watch and monitor the non-essential loads when the grid comes back too. You may be surprised at the spikes, may be 10 or 20K.
I've not had a single trip since changing my grid reconnect time to 600 seconds.

I think all the battery only backup systems coming online is starting to have an impact as they all start trying to charge from the grid after loadshedding stops.

That's rubbish. Even on Sunsynk's website they list at least 4 distributors, check for yourself, it's public info.

Suppliers have their outsourced callcentres / support systems, this is part of a distribution contract. In a land of BEE/ AA / Transformation this may be a foreign concept, but in the rest of the world, intermediaries need to sing for their supper, and actually deliver at least some value add.
Very often it is the same people that support similar products , but the SLA could be different for Deye compared to Sunsynk. Add to that multiple distributors. Some get Blue level, others get Silver, others Platinum. It depends how much they pay, and negotiate.

Naturally then, if say, Rubicon are paying for a Platinum service for their Sunsynk retailers and installers, and a Bronze service for Deye, and the support groups are filled with queries from Deye installers who bought their units from Gyre's Grey Imports, they will complain. This is fair. It's the way that distribution channels work.

As I was told it, it all comes through one of the electrical distributors (they are in the above list!) and everyone else is just buying from them (and one of those annoying situations where most electricians are buying from someone a few links away from the main importer!)
 
Judging by what has been posted on the powerforum thread, there are large loads on the non-essential side. Most likely geysers. When grid comes back the geysers and battery being charged draw more than the inverter can provide. Consider putting the geysers on timers so that they're never on at the same time.

Edit: 5kW Sunsynk is limited to 35A (8kw) AC passthrough.

The only power hungry item I have on during times it resets (that causes the inverter to be overloaded and go offline multiple times a day is a pool heat pump (pulls 2-3,5kw at most). This was moved to the essential side though..

Load pull doesn't reach 12kw, it can be at 5-8kw at most when it goes offline. If it's unbalanced won't ac pass-through prevent from an inverter overload or would this depend on how the timer is set up?

Is there any threads I can look at to see what settings can be adjusted, still a noob though but I've read on the powerforums someone asked regarding the same inverter and the response was the grid parameters may need to be adjusted for more latitude?

Is your issue not that its 4kw per phase and your heatpump is close to the phase max?
There should be ac pass through to help but would also depend on your grid functioning correctly.

You might need to explain your setup and when exactly it is happening.
There could be multiple factors such as your battery discharge settings are too low, etc.

I think the 12kW can do 6kW on a phase, with the balance shared between the other two. I could be wrong though.

Are fuses between the inverter and battery mandatory?

Im about to have a Sunsynk 5kw Battery installed on a Sunsynk 8kw Inverter.

Asked the installer if we need fuses and he said a circuit breaker would be fine as long as there is a fuse in the battery.

I am yet to see a install without fuses and wanted to know if this is mandatory or if optional?

Secondly if mandatory why would a inline fuse be better than a breaker?

DC breakers that carry that kind of current are typically very expensive but a circuit breaker is fine.

Going without the fuses, CB or at least a switch is pretty risky. There is a lot of energy in 5kwh worth of lithium if things go wrong.
 
Ugh.... so they upgraded today and the old one now has a newer firmware than the new one. They (possibly deliberately) ignored my request for the same firmware as the new machine and put a newer firmware on.
I must now request the same for the new machine. The trouble is it's a Sunsynk dongle (old one has Solarman) and I can't seem to add it to the Sunsynk app... Do I have to be an installer to add equipment? Any tips?

*EDIT* I had to create a plant first... using the ellipse at the top right in the app.
Now I have it all but it didn't take me through the networking setup for the new inverter... Will have to figure out how to add that to the dongle in the app...
Solarman and Sunsynk dongles use separate apps. If I were you, I'd decide on one platform for both.
 
I see that. Sunsynk is quicker UI wise. I might opt for theirs. I am appalled at the lack of security on both dongles though. Guest network only!

The inverters also support an installer lockout mode where installers can lock the client out for non payment as an example.

If someone were to be malicious they can effectively brick the inverter either through WiFi or the cloud platform. They really should get someone to evaluate their security as I've seen a few concerning things.

There are pros and cons of each. In a way I actually prefer the Solarman stats, they keep it for far longer.
