Haven't dealt with the 8.
Correct that the 5 has a massive heat sink, hence my fans are sitting on top of the heat sink.Makes a huge difference sucking the heat from it with the fans.

I would like your guy’s assistance with helping me spec the correct Hybrid Inverter / Battery combo for my needs . I’m sure I missed out vital info , hence me asking on this forum for assistance

I started of checking the wattage of the items we’ll be using during load shedding . (Room lights all led , tv , xbox , fridge , dishwasher , etc.)
I basically added up the total watts and came to 3300watts. I then looked at a Sunsync / Deye 5kw package.

My questions are:

1. Is a 5kw combo sufficient for my needs ?

2. How long would a 5kw battery last if I used 2500watts of power ? Example few room lights , tv , xbox , dishwasher used all at the same time.

3. I notice the Sunsync inverter / Battery combo comes with 10 year warranty vs Deye’s 5 year. Any reason Deye has a lower warranty term?

4. Feature wise between Sunsync / Deye which is better option?

5. What else should I be looking out for when spec’ing for inverter combos.

6. In future solar panels is option I’m looking to do. What would be a good starting point of number of panels required? (Solar is another separate research I need to look into, once I have the inverter combo) Canadian Solar is a brand I’d consider, as I see they highly recommended.

7. Is Sunsync / Deye the 2 best Hybrid inverters in terms of quality / reliability/ feature rich systems or better options available?

PS: I would love an 8kw combo but the price jump is significant.

If there’s anything I missed out, please feel free to included what to ask / look out for when looking around for specs / quotes.

1. Yes, because the dishwasher doesn't run all the time. Also try run the dishwasher outside of loadshedding and then you aren't limited to 5kw inverting

2. 2 hours dependant on max depth of discharge on battery. Ie 80% dod means you only have 4kwh on 5kwh battery, thus 4kwh/2.5kw= ~1.5h

3. Sunsynk also 5 years without the sunsynk battery. It's a specific sunsynk marketing

4. Basically the same. Slightly different interface. Sunsynk has English support, deye has chinglish. But things might be different now. In hindsight I don't know if i would go with sunsynk over deye. But either is fine.

5. Are you running your geyser on this? Because some of my answers might change.

6. Get a tier 1 brand from reputable seller. Don't sweat brand names if it's a tier 1 manufacturer: Canadian solar, ja, jinko, longi seem to be the tops for now. Possibly Trina but I don't know it well.
Just know that you need to match the voltage and amps of your panels/string to your inverter specs. So 600w panels will underperform on a sunsynk 5kw.

7. Deye/Sunsynk offer a great feature set and quality at a great price. Luxpower also pretty decent, just don't confuse their 5kw off grid with their 5kw bidirectional inverter. Victron probably the best but extremely expensive but very modular.

When you have eskom available, you can go beyond 5kw limit of the inverter. Without eskom you are limited to 5kw.
You can also split your db board between heavy use/non-essentials and essentials.
The sunsynk can back feed solar power to help power non essentials when you have excess power.
 
We were away this past long weekend, Friday until Monday, when we got back I noticed that power to the house must have 'dropped' completely at some stage as our microwave time had reset and I noticed similar with a few other appliances. I cannot find anything on the SunSynk app or in the data that points to this happening, load was very light other than the pool pump, batteries didn't get close to being low, etc. Any ideas on what I can check or may have missed?

Was the firmware updated perhaps?
 
How do we know if we are on the latest software? is there a place to check online?

From all the threads ive read about sunsynk firmware updates, the one lesson ive learnt is: if it aint broke, dont fix it.
There are plenty who have done firmware updates and end up in worse positions. If you are aware of a specific fault, then consider an update, but generally best to avoid it.
I dont think ill ever update my firmware because everything I need from the system is working

Yeah - unfortunately its been somewhat hit and miss for some users. i HAD to upgrade as i got a new inverter and had to parallel them. It went ok but agreed i wont be upgrading unless absolutely necessary

I e-mailed support and they upgraded me.

Word of warning, they're fairly prompt (24 hour turnaround time for me) but it's done without warning you ahead of time.

You'll know they did it because your power will suddenly drop, you'll run around screaming WTF, subject everyone to an inquisition wrt to the simultaneous use of hairdryers, kettles, microwaves and tumble dryers, double check all the settings on the inverter and then notice the email confirming that the upgrade was completed successfully.
