I do plan to tinker. I am still waiting for quotes, but my intention is to hit the Solcast API and ESP API and try to predict whether I'd need to charge from grid or whether I can hang on and wait for solar (based on my usage profiles which I've been modelling for the last few weeks with an Efergy).Your installer will most probably use solarman to make remote config changes if needed? At least that's what the installer told my parents with their Deye.
I have the Sunsynk dongle running alongside solar assistant on mine. My installer doesn't have access to solar assistant, and it's not useful for him either, but he gave me access to the Sunsynk dongle in read-only mode.
I got solar assistant as I'm a software developer and I like to tinker. It's a hobby. I plan on making some dashboards (not in home assistant) and solar assistant would be easier to do that with.
Solar assistant is also near real time, so I can log in quickly at night before bed to make sure I didn't forget anything on, based on the near realtime power usage at that point.
Unless you want to tinker, just get solarman, set and forget. If you want to tinker, solar assistant will be better.
So it sounds like Solar Assistant is the one to splurge for. The pricing is reasonable considering the value it adds. Thanks for the input.
