All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

For all the Sunsynk inverter users that didn't find the Sunsynk batteries worth it, and went with another brand of battery, any regrets?
I see prices have come down a little bit, but still ~25% more than most other brands (1C max types). Specifically referring to 5kwh capacity batteries.

Went with Revov B100

No issues, excellent warrenty and local support
 
My 8kw Sunsynk was installed with 2 x 5kva B100 batteries

Purely 'ups' backup power with no solar panels at this time

The batteries drop 1 or 2 % daily and then tops up to 99% again

Is this the correct way? Any setting to check?

Yeah that’s fine

Generally you don’t want your lithiums to stay at 100% all the time and some cycling is good for them (in terms of cell balancing)

None whatsoever.
3x Hubble AM-2 running well for 15 months on daily cycle, still at 103% SoH.
3x Pylontech US3000B running well for 34 months on daily cycle, currently at 96% SoH.
 
Really pleased with my new set-up... panels still to be added in the next month or so.

Just wondering, could any of the experts here let me know if the old kit is worth anything? I think the batteries might be spent as the old set-up dropped in performance quite drastically but the inverter and cabinet should be good.

Awesome. Happy to stick with the 2x Shoto batteries then, should be able to collect them this week. Also if I add another down the line then helps being the cheaper one.

8kw sunsynk already collected, the plan is in motion...

I guess the way they calculate SoH is useable capacity as the batteries are actually cycled, with 100% being based on the nominal spec at the factory? So you have some slightly higher capacity packs by chance?

Not sure, they have been 103% since day one.

I went with PylonTech UP5000's, my only regret is not being able to get US5000's but I have never seen any for sale in South Africa.
 
Looking at panels for an 8kw Sunsynk..
Canadian Solar available, both the Hiku6 (545W Voc 50V Isc 14A ) and the Hiku7 (595W Voc 42V Isc 18.6A).

Aiming for close to 5.5kwp if roof allows and previous installer seemed to think roof was perfect. Will get another to come have a look soon.

My thinking is I can do 9x595W (378V 18A) in 1 string on 1 MPPT, and keep the other for expansion (very unlikely to ever expand panels as usage is around 18kwh per day now in June).

Or 2 strings of 5x545W (250V 14A), on separate MPPTs. And if ever I want to expand then combine those 2 strings into 1 MPPT (250V 28A - clipping at 22A - so maybe do 8 in 1 string and sell the 2 or something) and use the other MPPT for new panels. Again, don't see myself adding panels anytime soon. Upfront cost here is also R1k lower with 95Wp more. so looking for an excuse to go this route. Another plus is monitoring both strings separately.

My questions are:
1. With 5x545W, is being on the lower side of the voltage really bad for production?
2. Am I correct in that having the panels split over 2 MPPTs should be more efficient? Esp if there are partial shading issues, or space/direction issues.
3. Does point 2 outweigh point 1?
4. Any material benefits of the Hiku7 over the Hiku6? Assuming it's a later model, but W per m² is pretty much similar.
5. Do installers usually bill the same cost per panel for installations and mountings regardless of the size of the panel? The Hiku6 is 2.26mx1.13m and Hiku7 2.17mx1.3m. I suspect this will pretty much level the cost of either option.
6. Does using more strings or mppts bring in more component costs?

3rd option is settle for 4.4kwp with 8x545w in 1 string on 1 mppt. And consider expanding on other mppt if production not sufficient.

With loadshedding mostly in check, I currently have mine set up to 80%. If it's sunny, the batteries charge to 100%, stay there until 16:00 and slowly start discharging to about midnight then switch over to Eskom until the next morning at 08:00.

I know these batteries isn't that great, and dropping below 50% apparently counts as 2 cycles. If you have these, how do you manage yours?

Down to 22-25% SOC every morning. Back up to 100% from PV by 3pm daily. 2x AM-2's. They must work.
 
How long have you been doing this and did you notice any degradation?
My system is still new. Installed 14 Feb this year and I got over the "baby the batteries" phase a couple of weeks later.

By my count, I'll get well over 8yrs before I hit the 3000 cycles to 20% SOC warranty condition. I'm sure we'll have much better battery tech by then.
 
Currently lowest SoC is 40% , but yesterday total went down to 26% as there was a street outage for about 9 hours. I was running them 18-100 when I had one battery. 1st one installed in July 22 and the other in April 23

The new one is working reallly hard. As per pic, even when overall SoC was 26% , battery 1 never even reached it, battery 2 drained faster.

Don't know who to actually talk too to understand this behaviour. Wonder if Hubble techs will talk to guys on the street. Screenshot_20230628_215058_Home%20Assistant.jpg
 
Can someone remind me how to stop non-essentials being powered from battery while I have grid? Seems whatever I've set it's always powering from battery if SOC is above the threshold in work mode 1
