I took a photo of the meter's reading in the morning and compared it late in the day. 100% sure the reading was correct. I'll try again today, but we have loadshedding from 14:00 so I won't be able to replicate yesterday exactly. Will still see what usage the meter indicates vs what the app shows.
Have a look at which devices don't work during loadshedding. These will be drawing direct from the grid and be the cause of your grid usage

Only if Use Timer is off and battery power is low. Otherwise the CT will help direct PV or battery power to those devices.

It is possible that the CT is incorrectly positioned which would account for the fact that the inverter shows much less power imported than what the meter shows.

Inverter won't power anything on the grid line during loadshedding
 
I need some advice.

We ran on the battery through the night and charged it via the panels today. Also did some washing and used the normal household stuff. When sun went down, I saw on the Pre-paid meter that we still used about 15 units from this morning. I don't understand on what though if one looks at the data on the app.

What am I missing? (grid charge was disabled for the battery).
What's connected on non-essentials and is your CT correctly positioned?
Non-essential draw will not show on app if CT incorrect.

2nd observation is why your batteries don't charge to 100% with the excess pv that's available?

Don't you maybe have Limit to Load ticked?

I think if you have that on you won't see your non-essentials on the graph.

I was not saying that it happens during loadshedding - it is rather obvious that nothing comes from the grid during loadshedding.

I am saying that when there is a discrepancy between what your meter says and what the inverter says was imported, then there is a possibility that the CT clamp is incorrectly positioned.

I said that too in an earlier post. And then you misconstrued my follow on post.

Edit: I just looked back at your post. Actually, that is exactly what you said. You corrected me saying that if there's a CT and sufficient battery it will power non-essentials during LS.

No it is not what I said. Read again within the context of what you said.

But let us not mess up the thread with this kind of arguments.

I hope the ct is installed correctly, I specifically asked the installer to make sure. If it is, I don't know, I'm a solar newbie.

Only the 2 geysers and 2 stoves/hobs are non-essential. The 1 hob was used yesterday afternoon for about 2 hours. Surely the 2 geysers and that usage of the hob, cannot explain the usage of 15 prepaid units during the day? (Even if the
ct is installed incorrectly).

Both are pretty new geysers and our average daily usage for the year used to be about 20 units.

The battery charges quickly to about 90% and then sort of trickle charges slowly up to 100%. It did this even before we installed panels and it charged from the grid.

Ps: I'm not using the timer on the inverter yet, still trying out the system and getting to know it.

2 geysers and a hob can easily use 15kwh (units) between them. Depending on the hob size, 2 hours of that by itself could be 5kwh. Geysers account for around 50% of household electricity usage.

This is a pretty hard thing to mess up. It's just a clip that gets stuck around the live wire on your incoming connection.

I guess it's not impossible that a connection somewhere is awry but it's not rocket science. If the inverter can read incoming power then it probably isn't the CT that's installed wrong.

See if you can trace the location of the CT. It should be clamped in the live before the mains coming from the grid.

Most likely it's installed inside the inverter or at the grid disconnect at the input from the grid to the inverter.

In order for it to work it needs to be able to pickup the current going through the mains from the grid. If its installed anywhere else it will not give the correct information or assist with offsetting grid usage from either pv it batteries.

Some prepaid meters can trip if there's any back feed of electricity it simply count it as usage so it will charge you for feeding into the grid.

Thanks for the input, but If that means opening the inverter or DB, I'll rather leave that to the installer. I'm not comfortable messing around in there.

We had reasonably sunny weather today over here. Didn't use any of the non-essentials during the day, but we had loadshedding between 14:00 & 16:30. Sunsynk app shows we used very little grid but 7 units down on prepaid meter up to now.

Anyone notice quite a big (5%) discrepancy between what the inverter reports and what the batteries report between SOC in Solar Assistant?

If it's good, then it is installed the correct way around, but it could still be installed in the wrong location. Your installer should have provided you with at least a hand-drawn diagram of its location.

What's interesting is how your PV just stopped producing (due to full batteries most likely and no other big workloads and then just generated enough to run load for rest of afternoon) nice one

I've mentioned before, 3x report 132ah - 1x report 122ah - it looks like the 122aH SOC is always off from the other 3, either higher or lower - and it looks like that SOC aligns to what the inverter is reporting.

I've enabled Solarman in Home-Assistant so I can log and test the theory.

EDIT: Its weird - while solar assistant is consistant, solarman/inverter soc is all over the place:
