And if they do, it's truly sad to see that it must be someone important (goverment) who is affected by crime before something is done. :(

Why do they keep releasing these people on bail??? Hopefully now that government-linked people are being affected by crime the government will start doing something about crime as a whole. Saw SA's UN ambassador was hijacked and held up too.

In a conviction your entitle to bail before your sentencing. Commit crime in that period though and you're looking at a longer tax-payed vacaction.

You shouldn't be "entitled" to bail. You should only be granted bail if you're unlikely to flee and aren't seen as posing a risk to society etc.

"He was arrested for the armed robbery in December last year, but had apparently skipped bail."

why was he granted bail ?

No... You're entitled to a bail hearing, regardless of the crime. It's up to the judge whether or not to grant it.

Who (name )granted the bail ?
What was the reason ?

SAPS risk lives to catch thugs , do not waste the efforts

Yeah, that's also what i was wondering. Armed robbery suspects should be excluded from applying for bail as far as i'm concerned.

I know, and obviously you should be entitled to at least a hearing. It seems the procedures regarding granting bail need to be reviewed though.
