I remembered a few years back (maybe last year even) there was a discussion about this guys book.

Here is an official site of his:
http://www.allencarr.co.za/

I read this blog today, after googling for smokes again, rofl.

The guy made sense and it's due to his blog post that I bought the book today.

I bought the illustrated version of the Easy Way to Stop Smoking.

Have any of you read it?

The only thing that bothers me, according to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_Carr

The man died in 2006 of Lung Cancer. I've heard this before. People smoke a while (about 8 years for me) and then they stop and a couple of years later they develop cancer.

Am I reading the wrong signs though?

Thanks,
tera ;)

Nah, I'm about to light up now though so stop interrupting...

Read that blog post at least. I bought it for the reasons that guy mentioned, you don't have to quit while reading the book, sounds "interesting" ;)

Edit: darn people who edit  :p

Moral of the story - don't give up a good thing :P

I never quit

I can save a lot of money if I do. I can smell nice. I can hopefully cough less.

I do enjoy smoking, but I know for a fact I'm addicted, which sucks, I hate being dependant on something :(

There's so many *** things in life.
Why quit one thing that u always enjoy.
U ever had a pack of somes that wasn't perfect?

Besides, I got money, I can smoke.
I never bum smokes from people.

And my mom said I can smoke.

My mom also said I can smoke, that's not the point though.

I don't bum smokes either, except if I don't have any ;) :D :p haha!

What on earth is a pack of somes?

I thought you were talking of shrooms or something

Read the book alf! Come now! ;) :D :p

Lets say I read the book - what difference would it make to my life? Would it fall under the self-help pile? I.E. is it another opinionated American trying to get me to save the world with him/her one less cigarette at a time?

I don't know :( How should I know????? hehehe.

I doubt it though, seems the book has been running since 1985, this guy also has had medical problems since he wrote it.

Lots of people swear by it, I doubt it's motivational quack type/therapy stuff.

I bought one with pictures! :p

Yep - read it - worked for me - no smoking for 2 years now and still going strong (after smoking for 15 years)

Don't expect a silver bullet though - you must want to stop - reading the book does not 'make' you stop - it allows you to see through all the little deceptions that cause us to continue smoking...

Good luck - that thin little book took me almost a year to finish...but I'm glad I did.

[Going back to smoking is like moving back into Khayelitsha after moving to Constantia - why on earth would you want to]

When he discovered that he was finally about to succumb to lung cancer, he said that if he had not stopped smoking when he did, he would have died 20 years earlier.

Damnit tera... read the thread title as "Allen Carr... Stop Smoking Gru."

Went like WTF? Who is allen carr and why would he tell me to stop smoking?

I got one third of the way through the audio book and quit. Going strong for three months now. From the little that I went through he did make a lot of sense.

Also, IIRC he is British not American. Secondly, the guy used to smoke 120 a day for decades - thus it is not too surprising that he died from lung cancer even after quitting. He used to smoke so much that he would have a permanent sinus headache.

Like, who cares?

You are like such a teenager like you know that...?

I guess it comes from having one of them around :D

(Too bad I can't trade her in for good booze. SU will probably have something to say about it too)
