I have heard from a reliable source that when they wanted to get allyoucaneat uncapped, they got the following information:

1.) allyoucaneat is capped on 30gig / month on international bandwidth.

also to note:

2.) datapro is capped on 10gig / month on international bandwidth.

Now allyoucaneat, please shed some light upon this. This is not a rumour, this company phoned you guys and you told them this information.

So it all comes down too, is it uncapped or not.

Nah - they wouldnt be that stupid.

Im not kidding, this is for real. Im asking here why more than if.

allyoucaneat please respond as this is a surely false advertising?

I cant see anything that clearly states this is possible in their terms and conditions.

In order to clear this up I think it is imperative that allyoucaneat categorically states if there are ANY limits whatsoever and in what capacity he/she is making statements – ie as a director, supervisor, janitor, etc.

well all I want from them, is to answer here with the honest answer.. YES/NO and no inbetween dodge-the-question answers.

30GB confirmed

I spoke to them today, and they sent me a copy of the updated TOS/AUP. Also, I was pertinently interrupted while trying to order the service and reminded that 30GB/month is the limit. In the TOS (which is now a 19-page monster rambling on about the most inane and irrelevant crap), the following paragraph has been added:

6.8 EXCESSIVE DATA USE

6.8.1 "Excessive Data Usage" will be defined as being:
6.8.1.1 30GB per month for 192/64Kbps
6.8.1.2 30GB per month for 384/128Kbps
6.8.1.3 30GB per month for 512/256Kbps

6.8.2 If the data, which is measured by calculating both uploads and downloads exceed the relevant total the speeds will be throttled back to approx 56K national only. The speeds will be throttled / shaped based on the calendar month billing cycle and automatically shaped for the remainder of the month once the relevant limit has been reached; and

6.8.3 A user that has been restricted can be reinstated to normal unlimited ADSL operating parameters if they commit to reducing their usage to within the above figures.

This does change their offering a bit; remember Biggest Bandwidth Hog Wanted!?)

The site seems to be a big load of misleading advertising at the moment, since there is no mention of this anywhere else, including the KB.

A copy of the updated TOS is available.

but then it is not uncapped??

this is just a different way of capping?

me is confused now.

Also, they say you will be throttled to 56K, but they don't say for how long.

Lets say I exceed my 30GB cap within the first month.

they can then throttle me to 56K. for the rest of the 11 months.

Pls correct me if I'm wrong

Correct. But as someone else has mentioned, this is a new restriction that Telkom seems to be enforcing on other ISPs, but AYCE has failed to mention it until now.

I understand it to be similar to the Telkom cap. If you go over 30GB in the middle of the month, you will be hit with the "Bad User!" slow pipe until the end of the month, when things will be reset again.

All You Can Eat™ Unlimited ADSL™ is a Broadband Buffet

PRESS RELEASE
for immediate release
2 March 2005

ALL YOU CAN EAT™ UNLIMITED ADSL™ IS A BROADBAND BUFFET

Many ADSL users feel that the skimpy 3GB ADSL accounts their Internet Service Providers (ISPs) dish them, leave them unsatisfied and wanting more, when they reach their monthly cap.

DOTCO’s recipe of low cost 3GB ADSL accounts are well known (see www.hellkom.co.za). In keeping with this tradition, DOTCO launched it’s All You Can Eat™ Unlimited ADSL™ account and the web site www.allyoucaneat.co.za on 1 March 2005.

For R480 per month, for a minimum period of 12 months, you can use your ADSL flat out – the way it was meant to be.

The All You Can Eat™ account is similar to the 3GB shaped account that DOTCO was offering, but without the monthly cap.

The speed of the ADSL service depends on the ADSL line speed. Telkom offers 3 speed options: 512, 384 and 192 kbps. But, with the 3GB capped account, once you have reached your limit for the month, your service is crippled until the next month. With an All You Can Eat™ account there is none of that.

We make it easy to get started or switch. Come over to our web site www.allyoucaneat.co.za and get signed up instantly.

We will hopefully get a reply from DOTCO to this post, so I will await their reply before judging too harshly, but in the meantime.....

From the above press release from DOTCO about the AYCE service, it clearly states that there is no cap to their service.

So, does this mean that they can now add a 30GB limit and all those suckers who signed the 12 month one sided contract are stuck paying for a now limited service?

If so, how ironic it came to pass so quickly. It appears that us sceptics might have been right about feeling there was something fishy going on.

Yes, there is a possibility that Telkom has changed it's conditions, but a company should not offer a service until they are absolutely sure that they can offer the service they are advertising.

I laugh at everyone who signed a 12 month contract with these people ... a deep belly rumbling laugh.

We need a :sucker: emoticon.

This got nothing to do with Telkom introducing a local cap at all, that is just still rumours.

Im starting to wonder just how they are getting their bandwidth.

The funny thing is, Datapro is doing the same offering as they call it, Uncapped ADSL with 10gig Cap... WTF?!?!?! and for R4000 / month they will change it to 40gig uncapped CAP LOL

Well I guess they are going to claim if they throttle you to 56K after 30Gb it is still uncapped just the you loose a bit of speed.

Hello ... I'm new and annoyed with this ADSL. When it hit our area it was a new product and I strongly suspect I was just a guinea pig. Information we were given was all just a bunch of lies and for the price we pay for this "service" I wanna puke. If I'd known then what I know now, I'd have stuck with my 56k, except of course Telkom cudn't stop my line from dropping. They devotedly assured me ADSL was the answer to all my problems. I was advised that once I'd hit cap my modem speed would be equivalent to a 64k. I've also repeatedly enquired where I can find this International Law that obliges them to cap my line at 3gig. To date no-one has yet been able to tell me. My many contacts overseas CANNOT believe what rotten bandwidth options we have NOR the prices we are obliged to pay for what we DO have. One "impressive" Telkom employee hastened to assure me that the costs were so high coz we are a third world country. I agreed with him ... BUT in the sense that it's exactly that wonderful attitude and mindset that keeps us in the 3rd world. I call it fleecing the public.

30GB is still a lot and it only costs a couple hundred more than 3GB - so you get 10 times more for under 2 times the price.. still not bad

In light of this information, as well as AYCE's lack of response, I'd politely suggest that antowan remove/hide his good review of their services until such time that they do respond to this post.

Prospective customers could possibly sign up with AYCE based on the review. Many people (myself included) use the feedback from this forums moderators/users to decide which ISP to sign up with.

Should AYCE not respond within a certain time (say a week) or should they admit to this 30GB international cap. Then I suggest the people on this forum should make it publicly known that AYCE has hidden this type of information from the public. This would show the true motive behind their wanting people to sign 12 month contracts as well as the reason behind why they dodged this issue so much previously on these boards.

Just a suggestion (or two) :)

Oh ... btw IF this 384 was running at a 56k modem speed after hitting cap I wouldn't be complaining. However, it's NOT and I cannot even access my e-mail. Another reason Telkom urged me to move over to ADSL is coz I use the net extensively and was told that they are doing away with that Call More Rate, so if using a 56k it would not be as cost effective as the 384. Good mates of mine in the UK last year advised me that 56k modems are to be banned this year. ALL households are to be fitted with ADSL lines - it's a new law to be introduced in the UK. 56k modems are too slow and cause too many bottlenecks. Wonder how we are gonna keep up?

Mad, yes 30GB would be great, but thats not really the point in this case. The point is they have been advertising uncapped ADSL. (uncapped does not equal 30GB). So if they are not offering uncapped ADSL then it's false advertising. And don't forget the price jumps up to R980 after this month. Thats a lot more than a 3GB account. And who's to say that after 2 months they won't change their contract yet again and offer a 15GB cap. Or after 3 months decide to give you 56K for your money.

But I guess I should hold my horses until we hopefully receive a frank reply from AYCE to clear up this matter.

Well to be honest, there is nothing to clear up here.. It clearly says that in their new updated TOS. The question is, what will the users do about this? Will they bend and go with allyoucaneat's ride or will they fight back.

From what I know, companies look at other companies who did similar things before they approached the idea. ie. Datapro offered this, for more and lower cap.. Same approach btw. No one argued with Datapro, they got away and the service was sustainable. South-Africans take just to much bull**** from companies, and companies know this and just enjoy the ride.
