Allyoucaneat or allyoucancap?

I feel that antowan should amend his review to reflect the new capping on the service - that they waited until after the all the free publicity to implement the capping is IMO deplorable.

As far as I can see the users who have already signed up are fine - they can cancel if they dont agree with the new terms and conditions.

New users beware – granted 30gb is a lot today but a lot can change in a year – computers used to come with hdd’s in the megabyte range – today that would seem laughable.

Thats my 2 cents - which is as much of my money AYCE will get unless they shape up their act.

Uncapped != 30 GB cap.

Existing users should walk away. Fly by nighters dont have R50k to drag each user in front of the courts for breach of contract.

I would also remove the story about Dotco from the news page until Dotco's position is clarified.

What worries me more is how they can charge R480 and have to pay Telkom R1900 for the 30gig if it all gets used. R480 only buys about two and a half 3gig accounts from Telkom, and one must assume that most users taking AYCE are going to want to use as much as they can since they are paying extra. Unless AYCE watches the traffic and the bills very carefully they could find themselves rather short of cash.

lets say, they get normal accounts like that asmith. Im pretty sure they negotiated a good deal from telkom to get accounts with 30gig caps for Rxxx and not totally uncapped accounts. Not sure how they get it, but this could be possible.

AYCE SPEAK UP!

I also note they they are not complying with the E-commerce Act.
No 7 day cooling off period provided for and no directors names on web site.

Notice that they've pretty much removed the term uncapped from their website - we've heard so much about AYCE that our brains equate them with being uncapped. They've got their free advertising.

I kept hearing how AYCE was modifying their TOC for our benefit - NICE ONE!

Time for a name change - All you could have eaten (if we hadn't stopped you).

Its not normal accounts, they may perhaps be a sliding scale. Perhaps one of the SAIX VISPs on this forum can comment.
For normal 3gig accounts where the ISP is doing their own Radius authentication SAIX bills VISPs for any user that logged in that month at +-R190. There must be a field for the ISP to say if the account is a shaped or unshaped in the response to the authentication request. I am not sure how it works with 3/6/9 etc caps however. Logically for Telkom to know how much to bill the ISP it should
be another field too that is the size of the cap in the response. If I were a clever ace ISP I would not send 30gig as the response, but 3 until such time as the user hit the 3 gig cap. So this may shed some light on what is going on.

no light at all, they lied and thats all that matters.

Roaches tend to scurry away when exposed to the light.

We made the concession in the terms regarding the price increase. 30Gb represents virtually unlimited ADSL and is still great value at R480. We have communicated with all our All You Can Eat clients to explain the reason why we had amended the terms and given them a choice.

Just to put 30GB in perspective: to download a 30GB file at 192kbps would take over 15 days.

So my 30GB on a 512KB line will what... Last 5, maybe 10 days??? Charming "uncapped" service, I must admit. I'm glad I didn't signup.

chris, All You Can Eat was never "uncapped" (unlimited != uncapped). Do you really download 30GB every 5/10 days? Who is your ISP? How much is your ISP charges? Through how many accounts do you need to cycle in a month?

allyoucaneat - You guys went on about uncapped, stuff your "unlimited" terms so deep cause this is exactly how I feel. Unlimited/uncapped same principal, what is so unlimited about 30gig? Sure its more than 3gig and sure its still a good offer. That does not change the fact that it changes from unlimited/uncapped to 30gig cap.

Tell me, how well would your product have sold if you made it openly available that its 30gig cap?

All You Can Eat on a 30gig Diet plan.

Hey guess what, that would be a better and honest advertisement.

Some site information just to ask what you REALLY mean by this and not what you "REALLY" mean.

"Get It Now.

Get an All You Can Eat™ ASDL account for only R480 per month (minimum 12 months) and use your ADSL flat out."

With this, you are saying "flat out" but what do you mean with flat out, as you just replied that "do the user really use it flat out". I kind of would think, if I join a service stating this big thing, Id like to use and even abuse it, since there is no brakes ie.

"Instant Signup.

We make it easy to get started or switch — get all the speed of ADSL, with none of the brakes."

You clearly mention, "none of the brakes" which would mean the cap, which would mean the unusable international traffic after you reach the cap.

Just to finish off, from your news article.

"DOTCO’s aptly named “All You Can Eat” service offers South African subscribers "virtually unrestricted" Internet access for a fee of R480 per month, which the company says represents an introductory offer for early adopters of its technology."

Since when is this "your technology" what the ****? Clearly you are confused and not to mention keeping other unknown and interested users in the dark, now confusing them with these terms... As if you invented the Uncapped Capped 30gig ADSL technology.

I have had my doubts, as any sceptic about allyoucaneat then I thought eventually its a valid service without any "brakes" and would have signed up as many others would Im sure. Then you dig bit deeper and get this kind of information.

My ***, I feel sick just going through all of this.

Aren't allyoucaneat and nukecap directly competing service providers?

Much as I love a bunfight, isn't it unprofessional for one service to be slagging off the other in public? I mean how do consumers derive any objectivity from two competing services talking their own books?

clipse, This is nothing personal, but you are punting something in your signature.

How long would 30GB take at 2k/s and between R140 and R200 + R230 (ADSL ISP fee) p/m?

And you are mos calling 2k/s "unlimited adsl bandwidth on demand"? (from the header on http://www.nukecape.co.za)

In the interest of open information I did put a small "Please note" in the opinion after the fact.

I am sad to say I did not notice this and thanks to those who did.

Regards
Antowan

In light of this information, as well as AYCE's lack of response, I'd politely suggest that antowan remove/hide his good review of their services until such time that they do respond to this post.

Prospective customers could possibly sign up with AYCE based on the review. Many people (myself included) use the feedback from this forums moderators/users to decide which ISP to sign up with.

Should AYCE not respond within a certain time (say a week) or should they admit to this 30GB international cap. Then I suggest the people on this forum should make it publicly known that AYCE has hidden this type of information from the public. This would show the true motive behind their wanting people to sign 12 month contracts as well as the reason behind why they dodged this issue so much previously on these boards.

Just a suggestion (or two) :)

Good mates of mine in the UK last year advised me that 56k modems are to be banned this year. ALL households are to be fitted with ADSL lines - it's a new law to be introduced in the UK. 56k modems are too slow and cause too many bottlenecks. Wonder how we are gonna keep up?

That is a load of **** and there is no such law in the UK (planned or otherwise). I suspect some ISP's may look at not offering 56k/ISDN dialup anymore since it would be cheaper and more effective to maintain just a broadband infrastructure.

It's not the E-commerce Act, it's the ECT (Electronic Communications and Transactions) Act, see http://www.internet.org.za/ect_act.html.
No matter what there contract states, no contract may remove any legal rights. So the 7 day cooling off still is applicable, no matter what their contract states.

Choice is?
Why did it take so long to communicate with what is your biggest group of potential clients?

From the way you posted and from what I read on your website unlimited meant uncapped to me. But then again there would be no problems if you had come to the party from the start and been open about how you do things. If from the start you stated that it may be a possibility depending on x, y and z factors, and what you see as unlimited, then you would have gotten a different response.

You need to now start to fix the mistakes you made.
Start a new thread, in the new thread apologise, explain your reasons for the change, answer the questions that this thread and the others have brought up you have glossed over, if you don't/can't answer the question then just say so and say why you can't, don't fill it with marketing/press release nonsence, post as a person. COMMUNICATE!

Here is a question! Next month will be april, will this service price still go up to R980 with the light of only getting 30gigs?

Currently R480 for a 30gig account is not bad however they should not of taken such a sneaky way to do this. They do however offer you to cancel your contract if you are not happy about the 30gigs.

I think the 56k bandwidth after being capped should be raised to 64k. That would be fair enough. We all knew there was something sneaky about ALYCE, R480 for an uncapped service, I guess we saw it earliar then we expected...

So the service is NOT UNCAPPED.

It's also not "All You Can Eat"

The price is also going to be R980 a month from April.

Sorry, but no thanks, I'd rather buy something from a company I can actually trust, as opposed to a company that changes it's tune as and when it suits them.

Word of mouth is a powerful force, so I would bear that in mind before practicing what amounts to false advertising.
