Hiya

I'm finally upgrading my laptop, and its been YEARS since I got a new version of office. What's currently on the market seems crazy expensive - what are my alternatives?

Thanks!

Depends if you rely on Outlook or not. If it is just a Word or Excel alternative, Google Docs or LibreOffice... I have yet to find an Outlook replacement... although email clients are out there... none come close to Outlook.

Openoffice/LibreOffice Zoho Docs

I'll stick with MS because of Outlook...

Office 365, and you get 1TB OneDrive

Go with Office 365. It's a subscription with really good value.

Rebel Tech has the Personal annual sub for R773. Around R65 a month.

R971 a year for the Home Premium sub is where Office 365 really shines though:
- All the latest Office apps
- Installation on 5 devices
- 1TB OneDrive storage per installation

That's R194.20 per person if you're buying for a family, or R16.18 per person per month. Excellent value imo.

Outlook is very good, but the closet free replacement is Firebird

+100. If you're still on Office 2003 you'll feel right at home with Libreoffice. For email Thunderbird or KMail.

Why pay for O365 when you can go with great free software...

I've never come across anything as good as Outlook. The other top quality office apps and 1TB cloud storage are the cherries on top.

Don't you mean Thunderbird? I last tried it out quite a while ago when I ran Ubuntu for a month, and it drove me up the wall.

The 15+gb of Google Drive is plenty enough for me. Videos I put on youtube, music on Gplay Music, photos on Google Photos.
