Hi guys
Wanted to get some suggestions for an alternative medical aid to Discovery as they’ve sent me the info for 2024 and my MSA is down from 15% to 10% for the year but my premium is gone up.
Based on my previous years I know that the MSA won’t be enough and will most likely be finished in less than 6 months as we are 2 adults and 2 kids (kids get sick way too often esp in winter).
The current plan we on covers hospital which thankfully we’ve only used when kids were born and pretty much any day to day like GP visits, Dental, meds etc comes out of our MSA.
The Vitality aspect is hardly appealing anymore.
Thanks

Move to smart classic, lets you see unlimted doctors visits for R60 a month.

Saved me tons money as also covers over the counter medicine.

Why are people so stuck on what Discovery deems is an appropriate MSA?

Take the plan without MSA and save it yourself based on your needs.

Then you can also spend where you want how you want without Discovery dictating what you can do with your money.

I guess that's the classic smart plan..?

What about dental visits, how are those covered..?

Bonitas, they increased there MSA for next year.

Medical saving is bollocks, it is the clients money being reserved for doctor visits and so forth from the premium paid. Rather stick that savings into a credit card or something.

Yeah, I chose a plan with no MSA. Better to save the funds in my home loan and draw as necessary.

On my current plan it comes out of MSA except if you go for the dental check-up for the points than that is covered by the scheme..

Which plan are you on? Doesnt the plans without MSA have lower benefits than the ones with MSA?
Havent checked in a few years, but might switch next year due to work

I'm on Momentum Custom with State option for chronic medication. The momentum network hospitals in Pretoria are really good.

insurance and medical aid are among the biggest scams

its basically gambling

just save the money for a rainy day and if u dont get sick... have a nice party with the savings or something
How is medical aid dishonest or with an intention to defraud? Pretty much everyone who signs up for medical aid knows exactly what they're signing up for and get exactly what they're paying for.

i didn't accuse any specific medical aids of fraud. I was refering to the concept of insurance and medical aid being scams in the sense that they are " legalised" (and in some cases, FORCED) gambling

whats the 1st rule of a casino ? the house always wins

You should look up the definition of "scam"

Yes and no. The scam is rather the tax you pay to government and funding their filthy life styles instead of funding healthcare, police, education and unfrustructure.

Medical aid and private security is an additional tax you pay to get the service you already paid for to government. If government wasn't destroying public services medical aids, a business model for the Ultra rich, would not have been necessary for upper and lower middle class citizens.
