The mainstream way to create electricity is to use thermal to mechanical. This seems to be one of the norms.

One of the ways to create thermal energy is from a compost heap... the centre of the pile is usually very hot (and some have known to burst in to flames)

why not harness the energy from the centre of a compost pile of steaming crud and then use the heat energy to convert to electricity.

its all a reaction with bacteria and such creatures.

A friend of mine runs a biodigester, and has just ordered a methane generator for it (she's using the gas to cook with at the moment) to provide her house with electricity. She already has a wind turbine and solar panels.

Like the heat thats inside a heap of grass you leave for a few days? Now why would I rather think that this effect was caused by the sun, and not some other reaction, per se?

But ok, how are we going to convert Heat into Electricity? A steam engine? There is not enough heat for that imho.

Smelly solution to the energy problem.
Also lots of methane gas.
It would be better to use the methane gas for heating.
